Chance To Be Good?

Chapter 8

Around 10, we all exit the dorm after watching a few films to pass the time. We make our way to the kitchen, where we start to find everything needed for the cookies and, sure enough; we started to make the cookies, with Mal and I alternating between stirring. "All right. It says that we still need one tear, and I never cry." Mal says "I cry but hardly" "Let's just chop up some onions." Carlos suggests as he holds an onion, "needs to be a human tear of sadness. " "And this love potion gets the best, so we have to follow it exactly." Mal adds, "A tear's a tear." Jay says with a shrug, "That's not true, Jay. They both have antibodies and enzymes, but an emotional tear has more protein-based hormones than a reflex tear." Evie explains, "Listen to you." Mal and I speak in unison, "Yeah, I knew that." "Did not." "Yeah, I did." I watch as Jay and Carlos argue back and forth before the door opens. "There you are, Mal! I was looking for you. You know, all the girls want you to do their hair! Midnight snack, huh? What are you guys making?" Lonnie asks. "Nothing special. Just cookies. Oh, no, no!" Mal gasps as Lonnie tries the dough. "Wait, wait, wait!" Carlos gasps as well. "What? I'm not gonna double dip." Lonnie replies, "Feel anything?" Evie asks "Yeah, like maybe it might be missing something?" I ask "Hey, there." Jay says, leaning over a counter. "It could use some chips," Lonnie says, ignoring Jay. "Chips?" He asks "chocolate chips?" I ask her "what's that? Mal asks "Chocolate chips?" "Just the most important food group. Wait, didn't your moms ever make you guys, like, chocolate chip cookies? Like, when you're feeling sad, and they're fresh from the oven, with a big old glass of milk, and she just makes you laugh and puts everything into perspective and... why are you all looking at me like that?" Lonnie asks "It's just different where we're from." Mal explains, "Yeah, I know. I just, you know, I thought... Even villains love their kids. Oh... How awful." Lonnie sighs "my non-biological grandmother made me chocolate chip cookies whenever she could which wasn't often but it's the thought that counts" I mumble as I stir in the chocolate chips that Lonnie had dumped into the mix while Mal took a tea from Lonnie and put it into the mix "Yeah, well, big bummer, but we have to get these into the oven, so thank you so much for coming by. Really, really, have a good night. I'll see you tomorrow. Evil dreams." Mal calls "Good night." Lonnie calls to us, "See you tomorrow. Okay, boys, cookie sheet. Evie, oven." I tell the others "Yes, ma'am." Evie nods.

We finished the cookies and allowed them to cool down before bagging them up. After taking the bag of cookies, I let them clean up. I got dressed into my PJs before seeing Cerberus. "you need walking don't you?" I ask and he shakes his head "thank god" I sigh before clambering into bed and falling asleep.

I woke up hours later, probably around half 6 so I got out of bed and got dressed before packing my bag "come on boy" I whisper to the 3 headed dog who pads towards me. I open the door and walk out followed by Cerberus. I shut the door and we walk out into the cold morning "morning Nix" Belle smiles "oh Morning Belle" I reply "it's beautiful today, don't you think?" She asks and I look around before agreeing "is something troubling you?" I then ask "I'm afraid so, it's come to my attention that maybe Audrey isn't right for Ben but it's so close to his coronation... I just want to be a good mother" she sighs "Belle, I'm going from the experience of not having a mother until being able to meet her properly yesterday and she isn't my real mother.  But believe me when I say this. Your doing a great job just have faith in the choices Ben makes whether or not he stays with Audrey is up to him, for all we know he may have fallen for somebody better than her in almost all departments" I smile "you are a good kid you know that right Nix?" Belle asks "never been told that before" I reply "I would like the invite you to a family dinner when your free just let me know, and I'll tell the boys" Belle smiles before hugging me "alright" I whisper as I return the hug "I better get going, have a wonderful day" I watch Belle walk back inside before I adventure out with Cerberus. I ended up sitting on his back as he walked around not straying too far from school since I had to sneak the three-headed dog back inside. His trip was cut short due to school coming closer, we entered the campus and the dorm block moments before anybody could see. I quickly got my bag and the cookies before heading to my class.

Before I knew it was nearly time for the match I just so happened to encounter Ben by the lockers so I opened mine as quickly as I could "She did it to Jane's hair, too, and Fairy Godmother's not happy about it." Audrey tells Ben "What's the harm?" He asks. I take my bag out of my locker "It's gateway magic! Sure, it starts with the hair. Next thing you know It's the lips and the legs and the clothes and then everybody looks good and then... where will I be?" Audrey asks him "Listen, Audrey..." Ben tries to speak to her only to get cut off "I will see you at the game after my dress-fitting for the coronation, okay?" Audrey asks him "Okay." He sighs "Bye, Bennyboo." Audrey calls walking off "Bye." He calls after her. I take the cookies from my bag before closing my locker "hey Bennyboo" I say mimicking Audrey but before he can even turn to face me I scrunch up my nose cause I just hated the nickname. "Hey" he smiles as he faces me "I just made a batch of cookies. Double chocolate chip, do you want one?" I ask taking the cookie out and holding it to him to take "Oh, I, uh, I've got a big game. I don't eat before a big game. But thank you so, so much. Thank you. Next time. Next time." He tells me and I look upset "No, yeah. I completely understand. "Be careful of treats offered by kids of villains." It's so annoying" I sigh "No, no, no." Ben says trying to backtrack "No, I'm sure every kid in Auradon knows that." I gasp at the thought of it "No, that's not it. No, no, no, I... I really do..." He stutters in his words "No, I get it. You're cautious. That's smart. Oh, well, more for me, I guess." I sigh as I go to 'eat it' only for him to take it and eat the cookie "No, no. Hey... see that? Totally trust you. Totally" he smiles causing me to smile since I knew it was true. He trusted me just like his mother. "How are they?" I ask him "They're good. They're great! They're amazing! They're, uh... I mean, they're chewy and, and you know, they... is that walnuts? I love walnuts. I mean, uh, you know, the... The chocolate... The... the chocolate... The chocolate chips are... I'm sorry. Um... Uh, they're... They're warm and soft. And they're sweet... Nix, have you always had those little golden flecks in your eyes?" Ben asks "How are you feeling, bro?" Jay asks Ben as he wraps an arm around his shoulder "I feel... I feel... I feel like... Like singing your name. Nix, Nix!" I stifle a laugh "Jay you better get him to the game. You can have the rest afterwards "okay Nix, I love you" he grins before kissing my cheek before he, Jay and Carlos walk off "we're getting closer to the wand" Mal grins "and a rocky relationship crumbling... I feel sorry for Audrey, she's going to think it's all my fault because of this now and cause I'm a VK" I groan "I'm sure everything will be ok, look if you still feel guilty we can make a reversal as soon as we all have time" Mal says "promise?" I ask "I promise. Now let's go get those seats. Evie is waiting for us" Mal grins "man you and Evie. Y'all must be dating" I laugh as we head out to find Evie
