"hey Nix, what are you reading?" Ben asks as he puts down a tray "uh" I check the front cover before looking at him "read the cover yourself" I tut before going back to reading My Dear Hamilton "ah, I'm yet to read that one. I'm currently reading The Hound of the Baskerville and The Valley of fear" "By Sherlock Holmes... Interesting choice" I respond, not bothering to look up "you've read it?" "Yes, the whole series. It was an interesting part of my childhood when books came from the mainland for us VKs to read. A lot got trashed, but I took a lot more, I think I still have them somewhere" I frown before closing the now-finished book and grabbing a full mug of tea and carefully drinking it "what did your father want to speak to you about?" I ask "it was about the whole Audrey thing, she came and complained about it with Chad there and he congratulated me on the match, which was nice. " I nod

We keep chatting for the rest of the day before going for dinner with his parents, which was just in silence, then we played board games before I returned to my dorm room for the night. The following day, I woke up a few hours later than I usually do. I then did my morning routine of getting dressed - with swimwear under a dress - I put on waterproof makeup. I slip out of the dorm and into Mal and Evie's dorm only to see Evie. "wow, you look amazing! What's the occasion?" She asks before hugging me. "I've got a date, oh! You can help me with something that I have!" I grin "oh? What is it?" She asks and I hand her my sketchbook with the dress I designed "awe, that's cute, I think I can add a few adjustments, let me measure you real fast" I nod as I stand still letting her grab the measuring tape and started measuring everywhere that was important to measure "okay, I'll try to get started on it for you, now go wait for Ben" she squeals and I nod before running out back to my dorm room. I put on my flats as the door opens again. "For the first time, I understand the difference between beautiful. I hope you like bikes." Ben smiles, holding out a helmet. "first time for everything. " I laugh as I walk out of my room, taking the helmet and shutting the door. We walk out of campus and on his bike. I hold on to him as he drives us to the place. "Tell me something about yourself that you've never told anyone." Ben says as we walk across a bridge. I turn and face him. "my middle name is Aspen-Zion. " I reply "Aspen-Zion?" He asks "yeah, my dad is really bad at naming and choosing" "mines Florian" "Florian?" I ask as we continue to cross "yeah" "How princely. Oh, that's almost worse." I sigh "I mean, you know, It's better than Aspen-Zion. But it's still no. Close your eyes" he says as we get off the bridge so I close them and let him guide me every step of the way "watch your foot. Yeah. Are you good?" I nod "now step up. There you go, are you ready?" He asks and again I nod "open. Go on" my eyes flutter open as I see a small area with a picnic laid out and it's surrounded by a crystal clear lake, I stare in awe before carefully getting down and heading towards it "it's beautiful" I gasp "not as beautiful as you"

I smile before sitting down and looking at all the food in the same way I did yesterday, unsure of what to have, I pick up a doughnut and eat it whilst listening to him talk "is this your first time?" "Mm... We don't really date much on the island. It's more like... Gang activity." I explain looking at him almost laying down with the only thing keeping him upright is his elbow "Um, I meant, is this your first time eating a jelly doughnut?" He laughs a bit "is it bad?" I ask as he sits up leaning forward and brushing my lips with his thumb "You got a... Just a... I mean, yeah, do this." "Mm-hmm. Gone? You can't take me anywhere, I guess." I laugh "You know, I've done all the talking. Your turn. I really don't know that much about you. Tell me something." Ben says "Well, I'm 16. I used to believe I was an only child until the day before I moved And I've only ever lived in one place." I sigh "Me, too. That... we have so much in common already." Ben smiles while I shake my head "No. Trust me, we do not. And now you're gonna be king." "Yeah." "What?" I frown "A crown doesn't make you a king." He points out "Well, it kind of does." I raise an eyebrow "No, it... Your biological mother is a mistress of evil and I've got the poster parents for goodness. But we're not automatically like them. We get to choose who we're gonna be. And right now, I can look into your eyes and I can tell you're not evil, you want to be good to get approval from your non-biological mother. I can see it. Let's go for a swim." I nod "yeah, in a moment, there are still a few foods, like the strawberries I want to try before I join" "don't eat all of them!" He calls already walking off to go swimming "I won't if I can't help it" I call back before eating a few strawberries. I look up to see him on a small cliff "are those crowns on your shorts?" I push myself further into the lake before sinking down to the bottom and just sitting there before getting pulled up "you alright?" I just nod "I got you this fancy rock. It's yours. Make a wish and throw it back in the lake. What... Uh, Nix... I told you that I loved you. What about you? Do you love me?" He asks as he gets us both out of the lake and back to the picnic as I hold the rock "I want to say I love you but the truth is. I don't know what love feels like, nobody's ever told me how to know if I'm in love" I sigh as I look at the rock "then I'll teach you, no matter how long it will take, I will help you" I smile at him before shoving the last strawberry into his mouth before drying myself off and getting dressed. I look out towards the lake leaving Ben to pack up "I wish for a happy ending" I whisper to the rock before throwing it back into the lake "you good to go?" He asks "yeah"
