"We will learn how to make Veritaserum this year along with many other potions. Now that you are all seventh years I can only assume your skills have gotten better over the years." Snape says in a slow drawled out voice. The morning class is silent with a few yawns. Many of the students not used to waking up so early since their lax summer vacation. Ron being one of them who's snoozing off while standing up.
The boy jolts awake when a loud slam of a book roughly makes contact on the table he stands in front of. Snape glares at Ron and the students dart their attention over to the noise. "You wouldn't be drowsy if you had gone to your dorm room in a timely manner Weasley." Snape hisses at the redhead. Ron purses his lips with his eyes darting down to his cauldron.
Snape then waves his hand off, dismissing the class to go ahead and attempt the Veritaserum written on the chalkboard. Not even a second later does Ron hear a witty comment from Draco. "What's the matter Weasley? Someone's a wittle sweepy?" Draco snickers as Crabbe and Goyle join in on the laughter.
"Shut up Draco." Ron spits out as he glares at the Slytherin boy. Hermione clicks her tongue and tugs at Ron's cloak sleeve. "Don't pay him any mind Ron. Let's just focus on making the potion. We have to prepare it exactly to the fine detail or else the batch won't be a success. It takes 28 days to complete."
Ron's eyes nearly bulge out of his eye sockets. "28?! How on Earth will we know if it's correct?" As Ron blurts this an explosion happens a few tables in front of the duo. It's no surprise the one to make the explosion is Seamus and Neville. The two never seem to do things with much success when paired together.
"Obviously we have to make sure it doesn't explode like theirs." Hermione retorts. The girl busily begins to measure out ingredients and tossing them into the boiling cauldron. "It's a clear and odorless potion so that will indicate signs on a good brew." Hermione says without looking up to see Ron's look of confusion.
The boy dozed off when Snape was talking and barely heard what this potion even does. "Um...what exactly does this potion do Hermione?" Ron awkwardly whispers beside her as he watches Hermione busy her hands. To make himself useful Ron slowly stirs the contents in the cauldron with a spell from his wand.
Hermione exhales deeply with a shake to her head. "Veritaserum is a powerful truth serum. You can ask any question to the one who consumes it and they can say nothing but the truth. But of course there's always a counter to potions. Like taking an antidote or using the spell Occlumency against the Veritaserum."
Ron's mind is slowly comprehending Hermione's explanation. Occlumency is a strong magic that many cannot handle. The spell closes off one's mind from other's who try to interfere with the use of Legilimency. A spell that allows the castor to navigate through the many layers of a person's mind. Ron remembers Harry mentioning something along the lines of seeing Voldemort's mind.
"I rather make a love potion." Lavender Brown whimpers under her breath from the table behind Hermione and Ron. Ron and Hermione give one another a look, neither saying anything. "I second that. I'd use mine on a certain Ravenclaw." Draco purposely speaks loudly on the opposite side of the classroom.
Ron knits his brows together. Clueless to why Draco has a sudden interest on a Ravenclaw student when most of the shared classes he has is with Gryffindor students. "Who?" Goyle asks with curiosity towards Draco. Draco narrows his eyes on the boy as if he's an idiot.
"Did you forget who we were teasing last night?" Draco hisses out. Goyle connects the dots and makes an 'O' shape with his lips. The boy points his finger wildly at Draco the moment he knows the answer. "Ron's childhood friend! Y/N Y/L/N! I didn't know you started to fancy her Draco." Goyle speaks in amazement.
