A newborn's wails could be heard in the operation room with quick cries of relief from the parents before the atmosphere within the walls became intense again.
"One more! Push!" the doctor's voice rang through the room and the woman's struggling screams bounced off the walls, sending everyone in the room shivers as sweat rolled down their forehead and dripped onto their clothes. Holding her hand tightly with care, the woman's husband whispered words of encouragement and reassurance despite being just as anxious and nervous.
An hour and 31 minutes later, another baby was born. Except, he was unresponsive. No crying, no breathing and laying limp in the doctor's hands. Panic flashed across the parents' eyes as they watched the doctors and nurses hurriedly grabbed the essential equipment to perform resuscitation on the baby.
After what seemed like eternity, the newborn finally started to breathe and let out an almost ear piercing cry, much to his parents' second relief. He was immediately put into intensive care while the first baby was completely healthy and fine.
Choi Beomhan, the healthy first twin. And Choi Beomgyu, the weaker and smaller second twin.
Beomhan, the first to walk and talk. Beomgyu doing so a day after.
Beomhan, the first in class. Beomgyu never coming close to being the top of the class.
Beomhan, the first to have an ambition and a dream. Beomgyu, the twin with an empty head.
Beomgyu lived his childhood following after his older twin, asking Beomhan to wait for him multiple times, be it climbing stairs, getting out of bed, getting dressed, eating and just anything in general. Beomhan's a bright child, excelling in both academics and sports. Beomgyu's not so bright. He's rather slow and uncoordinated with no outstanding abilities. Beomhan's talented in many ways and Beomgyu doesn't have any talents. The identical twins are vastly different but the bond that they have is strong. Despite their differences, there are a few things that they share in common: patience and love for each other and their family.
When Beomgyu struggled with catching up with Beomhan, the older would patiently wait for his younger twin. When they argue, Beomgyu would patiently wait for his older twin to finish explaining his point before countering it or finding a common ground together. Sleeping in bunk beds since young, Beomhan on the higher bunk and Beomgyu in the lower one, they would spend time recounting their days to each other, telling funny stories and sharing memories. Their family isn't wealthy nor very poor, but they're slightly below average. Thus, the twins shared everything, from toys and clothes to a studying desk and textbooks. The twins themselves believe that they're closest twins on earth, having shared secrets and keeping almost no lies between them.
Because of how identical they look, their parents had decided that Beomhan should have short hair while Beomgyu would grow out his, having hair long enough to be tied up into a ponytail, for others to distinguish them. In their first year of secondary school, Beomgyu got into trouble for having long hair, which was against the school rules for male students. Because of Beomgyu's straightforward and more rebellious personality, he argued and got into detention. Beomhan had to come in to his rescue, explaining calmly to the disciplinary headmaster that it was for others to identify them because they look exactly the same. And he even managed to convince the school for Beomgyu to keep his long hair, saying that if he tied his hair up in a ponytail like the girls, then it shouldn't be a big problem. Beomhan's cool headed and smart. Beomgyu's kind of a strong headed idiot who's horrible with words.
