Under the dimly lit sky, he ventured alone through the vast empty landscape that stretched into eternity. There was nothing blocking his path, but there was also no sign of life and companionship. Each step he took felt heavy, as if he was carrying the weight of solitude on his shoulders. Each shout he made only echoed back to him, amplifying the emptiness that surrounded him.
There was a profound sense of longing, a yearning for connection and belonging that eluded him no matter how hard he tried to grasp it. Loneliness was painful, a dull pain that slowly swallowed and chewed on his walls, but he could at least endure this much.
"Taehyun."
It was just a simple call of his name, yet it was strong enough to shatter the desolated landscape. It began with a small crack under his feet, which slowly widened and deepened, snaking its way through the earth with silent determination.
A low rumble resonated from the depths below, vibrating up through his legs and into his very core. With a sudden, jarring jolt, the crack split wide open and the ground beneath him gave way. He found himself teetering on the edge of a dark abyss, his heart hammering against his chest, his own frantic breathing ringing in his ears.
"Taehyun!"
This time, the voice sounded just as panic-stricken.
"Take me away from here please-"
"Beomgyu!" Taehyun sprang up from his bed, eyes blown open with sweat trickling down his forehead. His shirt clung to his damp skin, making him uncomfortable under his own pajamas.
Wetting his dry and chapped lips, his eyes relaxed after realising that it was just an unpleasant dream that he had. It was not very often that he got nightmares, but every time it happened, it felt more real than anything. The feeling of distraught and despair stuck with him, causing an uneasy tingly sensation to form under his skin.
Scratching his arm in an attempt to rid of the irritating crawling sensation, Taehyun leaned over to his bedside drawer and pulled out a single velvet box. The bird necklace with tanzanite gemstone sat prettily in the middle, untouched and sparkling under the sunlight that had crept into the room.
With lips pressed into a thin line, he shut the box and slid it into the small paper bag that rested atop his side table.
"Hyung! The housekeeper just received a call from Jiwon hyung's school. He's...!"
Taehyun had just came out of the shower and in the midst of putting on a freshly ironed shirt when the youngest Kang, Sieun, had barged into his room with worry plastered all over his face.
"What did he do this time?" he asked after wearing a blazer over his shirt.
"He got into an accident! But he said he only wanted you to be-" Sieun was unable to finish his sentence when Taehyun had already walked past him and into the hallway, not without grabbing the paper bag though.
"What are you doing, let's get going."
Sieun blinked and wasted no time following after his second oldest brother.

"Ouch!" Jiwon clutched his head after he received a smack at the back of his head from Taehyun, "hey that's unfair! I'm injured!"
