Overwhelmed. Beomgyu was feeling overwhelmed.
Dressed in a tailored suit with a Chanel pin on the lapel of his blazer and dress shoes that were too expensive for the amount of discomfort it was providing, Beomgyu followed Taehyun around timidly, way too unaccustomed to the lavish setting and the crowd of intimidating rich people.
Everything was too much for him to take in. They were in the middle of a river, on a vehicle called the yacht, a luxurious transportation tool Beomgyu had never dreamt of boarding. Yet here he was, following Taehyun around like a lost puppy among the sea of blinding bachelors and bachelorettes. It was a formal birthday party and Beomgyu thought it was going to be classy, but he could only hear obnoxious laughters and taunts bouncing off the walls of the cramped room. It didn't help when all he could smell was a mixture of perfume and alcohol. Even his own presence harboured ambiguous gazes and looks from fellow guests Beomgyu couldn't decipher. His senses were overwhelmed by the unfamiliarity, and the only thing he was familiar with was Taehyun. Thus, he stuck to him like a super glue, delicate hands subtly clutching the hem of Taehyun's white dress shirt as they walked around the space.
"Beomgyu."
"Y-yes?" Beomgyu looked up from the floor at Taehyun only to find a piece of cured meat and crackers pressed to his lips.
"Eat up" Taehyun simply said as he pushed the food into Beomgyu's now open mouth. "How do you like it?"
"It's salty" Beomgyu answered honestly, "but the cracker is good."
"First time eating cured meat?" Taehyun asked an obvious question and the other could only nod in reply.
Picking up a breadstick from the grazing platter, Taehyun dipped it into a small bowl of ricotta cheese before bringing it up to Beomgyu's lips again.
Instead of allowing himself to get fed by Taehyun, Beomgyu replaced his hand on the breadstick, holding it himself and taking a small bite, eyes watching Taehyun's smiling expression.
Beomgyu had noticed that Taehyun smiled quite often, but rarely genuine ones. His smiles never reached his eyes and the longer Beomgyu stared at him, the creepier and hollow Taehyun's fake smile got. Taehyun has pretty pretty eyes, but something seemed amiss in them. As much as they sparkled under chandeliers and bright lights, they were just reflections. His eyes never truly shone with their own lights. Taehyun frightened Beomgyu to a certain extent. And the fact that he knew nothing much about him yet didn't help either. Every time they spoke, it was all about Beomgyu, never Taehyun. It would be a lie if Beomgyu wasn't curious about him, but he couldn't find the right opportunity to ask him any questions. Taehyun gave no chances.
Nibbling on the breadstick, Beomgyu continued to stared at the other boy, millions of thoughts running through his mind. He had so many questions for Taehyun. First of all, why him? Second, why was Taehyun treating him the way he is right now? Why did Taehyun bring him to a birthday yacht party as his plus one? Why does Taehyun ask him so many "do you like it" questions? Why was he spoiling Beomgyu? Beomgyu was no friend of Taehyun's, let alone a special someone to him. He was just Taehyun's model for art, yet Taehyun's giving him a taste of his above the standards life.
Beomhan had told him how Taehyun seemed manipulative. And if that was true, Beomgyu didn't quite see a single disadvantage of being Taehyun's puppet so far. Taehyun gave him a job, allowed him take home those pretty glass gems and marbles, invited him to touch his expensive cats, fed him sumptuous food and dressed him in fine clothes and jewellery. Taehyun could play with him all he wants, Beomgyu didn't see any harm in that.
