Jack's POV
Elsa follows me out to my car reluctantly. But just as we're about to get in she stops.
"What?" I ask.
"I'm sorry. I just can't stand the smell of cigarettes," Elsa squeezes her eyes shut.
"Oh, I'll stop right now. In fact, I'll stop forever. I'll quit right here & now!" I exclaim. Then I mentally face palm. Why am I spazzing out so much right now? I take the cigarette out of my mouth and drop it on the side walk, squishing it with the toe of my shoe. Then I climb into my car. Elsa settles into the passenger seat & pulls out her phone. I can already see her tagged in photos, videos, & has a lot of new texts messages. She sighs & shuts her phone off. Then she rolls down the window and places her head near the opening. I start the car & we pull out of the driveway. A red light greets us up ahead.
"So explain to me why I'm driving you home right now."
"Well..." Elsa explains everything while we sit at that red light, new tears streaming down her face. The light turns & I veer to the left.
"Where are you going?" Elsa screams.
"I can't take you home like this," I explain.
"But my parents are not home."
"I don't care." I reply, pulling into the expressway. We take it all the way to the next town, & pull into the parking lot of my favorite restaurant, the Classic Diner. Elsa gets out & inspects it. She shrugs & heads inside with me. We sit down at a booth & order drinks. No one talks. Finally, Elsa eyes me.
"You seem tense," she remarks.
"How can I not be? My own brother is a lying scumbag." I grit.
"I can see why you'd be worried, you have some of those genes," Elsa takes a sip of her coke.
"Is this funny to you?" I pound the table. Anger flashes in Elsa's eyes.
"Yes, I think it's hilarious that the only real boyfriend I've had just broke my heart & didn't even have the courage to tell me he was cheating on me. He had to get drunk & show me, humiliate me, & pretend nothing happened. I'm just laughing so hard right now because no one will ever know my side of the story, they will only believe sweet little Jamie & side with Slutty Hillary. Can't you just tell I'm cracking up on the inside?" Elsa yells. I back down.
"I...I know your side of the story," I shrug. "I'll stand by you," I say. Elsa rolls her eyes.
"Yeah, because one person will make such a difference," She remarks.
"It's better than no one," I take a swig of my sprite. Elsa sighs.
"Can we just talk about something else please?" Elsa pleads. I nod & we talk about school. I find out Elsa is really a sweet, pretty girl, even with mascara marks running down her face. By the end of dinner, I find she's pretty good about break-ups & is a really strong girl. Physically & mentally. She could probably beat Jamie in a fist fight. Finally the bill is paid, my job, & we head to my car. Elsa gets in & sighs. She had about 30 new messages now. Finally we reach her house. I get out with her & follow Elsa to her front door.
"I...I don't have a key," Elsa bites her lip.
"It's okay, I know a trick," I reply. I reach into my wallet & pull out my credit card, slide it between the door & the frame, & TA-DA! The lock is not a lock anymore. Elsa grabs the handle & moves the door backward to open it all the way. She thanks me then goes inside. I follow her.
"You can go home Jack," she says.
"I do NOT want to go back to that party. Plus, when Jamie gets dumped, he gets mad. I don't want him hurting you."
"Jack, he won't hurt me."
"You don't know that Elsa. We live less than two minutes away, he's drunk, & he's under the influence of Hillary. So I say I'll stay with you until your parents come home," I explain. Elsa sighs but reluctantly leads me into her living room.A/N:
