I'm surprised at how dark things had gotten during the night. The forest had become extremely dark over the last 10 or 20 minutes of walking. Having these headlamps has been a godsend, they light up a good amount of the forest and you don't have to wave around a flashlight in the direction you want to see.
On the bright side of things, looking up at the sky at night is beautiful. Without all the factories putting smog in the sky, you can see the stars and moon very clearly. It's just an amazing black void with clear white speckles all over it, I've never seen anything like it. I could only imagine what the sky would look like in winter when the northern lights show up.
Besides looking at the sky, nothing has really happened. We've just been walking East without anything new going on. I decided to break the silence by asking, "Anything you've guys been doing this summer?"
"Not much," Replied Issac. "I've been camping a couple of times, and both times I tried to practise my survival skills."
"Like what?"
"Making string from fibres, foraging, woodcraft, fire starting, just things like that."
"Interesting. Glad you're with us during this otherwise we'd be screwed. What about you Pat?"
"What? Like survival skills I can help with?" He questioned.
"Dumbass, I mean what you've been doing this summer." I clarified.
"Oh, I've just been binge-watching shows."
"Favourite one so far?"
"Probably this one post-apocalypse show. It's called Sunsets of Anarchy or something like that."
"I think I've heard of that. It's got furries in it." Issac added.
"They aren't furries, they're anthros, just like the ones in this world. Big difference."
"Whatever you say," Issac jokingly replied.
It wasn't long after we finished talking when I noticed something in the distance. In what my headlamp could illuminate, I could tell there was some sort of clearing. We got closer until I realized it was a road leading north and south.
"We should wait until morning," Pat suggested. "I feel like searching around for clues with nothing bed headlamps in the dark might cause us to accidentally mess things up."
"I guess that makes sense," I replied. "Where do we set up camp then?"
"I'll find us a clearing," Issac answered.
He grabbed a stick and stuck it into the ground so we wouldn't lose this location next to the road, then we followed him back into the forest as he walked around. We eventually came across a little clearing that had really tidy and flat ground. There weren't any branches or twigs, not even any fallen leaves on the ground. This world's forest is just amazing.
Issac started a fire and set up our sleeping bags. After that, he volunteered to stand to watch for the night so we don't end up ambushed by animals or anthros.
After that I got into my sleeping bag I hoped no bugs would get into it, the hard ground was already bad enough. I hope we can get this done quickly so I can be back home in a comfortable bed. I closed my eyes and waited for the morning.
I awoke to the morning light on my face. I gazed around and noticed Issas was sleeping and Pat was sitting next to the fire boiling some water in the kettle. I crawled out of my sleeping bag and checked myself for any bug bites, thankfully there were none.
I got up and sat down next to the fire as well.
"How are you?" I asked.
"I'm fine," Pat replied. "Just waiting for the water to boil so I can cook the dry camping food for breakfast."
