"Do you guys think we're going to be ok?" Pat asked as we approached the mountain.
"Hopefully," I replied.
I could see a group of anthros making their way up the steps but I couldn't tell if Matt was with them. When we finally reached the stairs the group reached the top and disappeared out of our sight. We readied ourselves and slowly began to make our way up. The steps were a bit taller than usual stairs so walking up them was a bit awkward.
"I can't believe we're almost done with this shit," Issac said with relief.
"Yeah, after two or three weeks of being here, I'm just glad things are almost over," I replied.
We made it about halfway up when Pat said, "I'm kinda nervous to meet a dragon."
"Same man, she's probably going to be ravenous or something." I agreed.
"What if she just torches us immediately?" Issac asked.
That possibility I didn't think about earlier hit me with fear, making me say, "Oh shit, I didn't think of that. She's probably just going to go insane and torch us as soon as we touch Matt."
Elise looked over at Isaac and asked, "Do you think you can shoot her in the head as soon as we see her?"
"I don't think I can quick scope a dragon lady in what is probably a small room." Issac sadly answered.
After our brief talk, we finally neared the top steps. I could hear people talking before a door opened and quick footsteps started to shuffle around. We reached the final step just in time to see a few anthros walk through a doorway and quickly shut it. Before they did, I thought I could see a human with them.
A group of anthros stayed outside and looked at us. Each of them were armed with spears and some sort of special-looking armour. The previous tribal anthros we came across just had clothes made from leather, these ones were wearing this wooden armour with art carved into the various pieces.
One of them took a step toward us so I said, "Could you guys get out of the way? We have guns."
They looked at each other and said something in some other language I didn't understand. They all readied their spears for a fight so Elise quickly cocked her musket and shot at the ground near them making them stop.
Issac joined in and shot around the ground near the guard until one of them yelled, "Stop! I did not know that I could shoot more than once. We are sorry!"
"Oh, so you speak English? Get the hell out of the way right now then!" I demanded.
They stepped out of the way so we opened the doors and stepped into the ruins. The walls were made out of this type of brick that was dark grey. Lanterns were hung along the walls, lighting our way. There was one hallway to go, so we just hurried down it without a second thought.
We quickly rushed down the hall as Pat asked, "Jesus Christ, how the hell did that work?!"
Issac took a few breaths since we were quickly rushing down the halls before he replied, "I have no fucking clue, I guess those guards are scared of anything intimidating."
The four of us continued down the hall as we passed a few rooms with nothing of interest. Usually running with my heavy backpack on would be annoying, but this time it almost felt good in a way. Maybe it was the joy of this being the last time I had to run with it on.
My heart started to race as I could hear faint footsteps and voices ahead of us. Our running down the halls spooked them because I could hear one shout something in that other language before the footsteps ran away from us.
