I was abruptly woken up by waves rocking heavily against the boat we were on. I sat up and looked around to see that it was probably noon. Pat was still asleep, Issac was awake and watching over the ship, and Elise seemed to have been woken up by the waves as well.
I laid back in my sleeping bag since I don't want to get up just yet. We have probably spent the last 12 hours sailing across the ocean to Saltu island on this boat we got from the coast near the cave.
Shortly after we met up with Elise last night, we found a rather big boat for us to sail on. It was bigger than the last one we used so there was plenty of room for us to walk around comfortably. We brought Pat onboard, set sail, and most of us fell asleep while Issac steered the ship. Before we set off we asked where to sail and learned the other island wasn't that far away so we wouldn't be traversing the sea for a full day or two.
I tried to get a few more minutes of sleep but the waves were pretty strong today. Eventually, I gave up and got out of my bag to eat something. Elise and I grabbed some jerky to eat for breakfast as Issac started to get some rest.
"So, how was your sleep?" I asked.
"Not the greatest," Elise tiredly answered.
"Same, the waves here suck."
I finished eating the few pieces of jerky I had before she asked, "What happened the day Matt was captured?"
"Oh, I was showing off my portal device. I finished making it, did some tests with it, discovered the village, and not long after told my friends about it. We went down to the village, the revolutionaries showed up, and after a chase we escaped without Matt." I explained.
"That was when we first met as well," Elise added.
I replied, "You were pointing a musket at me."
She laughed and said, "I know, I heard someone break into my house and you burst into my room. I was surprised to see you were a human of all people."
"Is that why you followed us all the way across the island?"
"Not entirely, I followed you because I had nothing else to do. My village was gone, my house had its door destroyed, overall I had nothing."
"Wouldn't you be scared of following us then?"
"I had nothing to lose. That, and I heard you outside my window telling Issac about how you felt bad you led revolutionaries into my home."
"I said that?" I questioned.
"Yeah,"
I thought back to the day we started our journey. We were passing her house, we searched around for clues that would lead to Matt, and I could faintly remember saying something like around that time.
"I think I remember that now," I replied.
"You cared about me from the first day we knew we existed." Elise happily stated.
"Yeah, I... I guess."
I felt my heart flutter in my chest as I realized that.
"Are you ok? Your face is becoming a bit red?" Elise asked.
"I, yeah. I'm ok."
She seemed a bit suspicious for a monet before she went back to normal.
"Did you know about the revolutionaries before they took Matt?" Elise asked.
"Nope, not at all. I knew there were people with bows in the jungles, and I knew there might've been bandits who raided towns and stuff, but I didn't know they were people trying to fight the government." I answered. "It all seemed so... I don't even know how to explain it. Me and my friends were having a good time, the four of us were exploring a whole world that we didn't even know existed. We were taking pictures of things like black jays, we were drinking wine we found, just having fun. Next thing we know we get attacked by animal people."
