The last couple of days have kinda sucked. It's just been hours of walking each day before we go into the woods to set up camp.
The female badger following us hasn't shown herself yet. I hope she saw the peace offering as something good and not some sort of threat that we're armed.
I also haven't seen anything all that interesting besides a few things in nature. I've seen a few birds that looked familiar, but there was this one that I saw yesterday that was different. It was a raven that I thought was normal until I got a closer look at it. It had a light grey chest and light grey stripes on its wings. We saw a couple more bucks with 20 points and those white and black mushrooms again. There were these strawberries we found that were bigger and sweeter.
While camping we came across this ant hill that seemed to have way more intelligent ants. The hill seemed more structurally sound and the ants seemed to be more coordinated and dexterous. Issac placed a strawberry near the hill and the ants seemed to look up at him as some sort of thanks before taking it.
There was this fox we stumbled upon that had bright orange fur. I know it wasn't a new species but I haven't seen a fox in the real world before so it was nice to see that one.
Besides all that, nothing has really happened. No revolutionaries, travellers, towns, wild animal attacks, badger lady coming out of nowhere, nothing.
At the moment, me and my friends are sitting in our camp having breakfast. It's some of the last of our camping food, so after that's gone we'll have nothing unless we buy food from a town or hope Issac shoots something.
Pat had some music playing on his phone which I'm very thankful for. If it weren't for Pat bringing along music to listen to I don't think we'd have anything to entertain us during our long walks.
As we sat around Pat asked, "How long until we reach the plains?"
"I think we're almost there. The trees have been thinning out and when I looked down the road with my binoculars it seems the trees end some distance down." Issac answered. "After that, we'll probably come across the town or city soon after."
"Fuck, I just want something to happen," Pat complained.
I agreed and said, "Same, we've done nothing but walk. At the very least the badger could've shown herself."
"Do you think she's watching us right now?" Pat asked.
"Maybe." I replied.
We continued sitting around the fire until it ran out of fuel. We would have added more, but we were planning on leaving. As we started to pack our things, Issac said, "We gotta find shelter by the end of the night."
"Why?" I asked.
"The leaves are turning more green and curving to prepare for rain. The clouds are also getting bigger and darker so we might have only a few hours before the rain starts." He explained.
"What if we don't find shelter?" Pat asked.
"I brought a small tarp with us but rain will still come in from the sides depending on the wind. It will also be pretty damn cold and annoying."
We finished getting packed up and set off down the road. I looked up at the sky and Issac was right, the clouds were getting dark and bigger. They weren't directly above us but they would slowly be brought over to us by the wind.
While walking down the road I did the usual thing I do while walking which is to try and spot animals or other things. The first 20 or so minutes of the walk yielded nothing of note, just some things I've already seen before. I did notice another one of those black jays watching us though. It was cool to see one again.
