CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Ashton's POV
I couldn't resist. I needed her. As we kissed, things quickly escalated and we soon found ourselves making passionate love on the carpeted floor of my bedroom. We had moved from the bed to avoid the squeaking springs that could draw attention. She softly moaned my name as I put all my energy into this sweet moment. I went deeper than I had ever gone, and judging by the way that she had kept clawing up and down my back, I knew that she had left her mark on me.
That night, I realised that I was in fact in love with the girl who went by the name McKenzie Quinn. This broken girl who was slowly being put back together again was all that I needed. She was so beautiful, and I was so lucky to love her. To have her love me.
I smiled at her sleeping form, her naked body wrapped in my sheets and curled up into my side. She looked like a goddess, the light from the window making her skin look velvety soft. I touched her cheek with my index finger, and she stirred in her sleep, before finally looking at me with those eyes. Those beautiful green eyes. If you looked closely, you could see the specs of grey and blue in them. Her chestnut hair was sprawled out on the pillow like a halo. Her pink lips were dry but not chapped.
I stared at her for a while, appreciating her beauty and not uttering a word. She took in slow breaths, and I could feel her heartbeat which was in sync with my own. That's how I knew that she was the one. Our heartbeats. It was like music. Better than any record that I owned. Better than anything that I had ever heard.
"Hi there." She smiled shyly.
"Hey." I responded hoarsely, returning the smile. She was about to say something else when we heard a knock on Cassidy's door across the hall, followed by my mothers voice. McKenzie's eyes widened, but I knew that Cassidy wouldn't give us away.
"Ashton?" Mom said, knocking on my door next. Kenzie visibly went pale, but I reminded her that the door was locked by pointing to the slab of wood. I could see and feel her relax, and mom knocked again.
"Uh, mom, I'm very ...very naked right now." I called, and Kenzie bit her lip to keep from laughing. I ran my hand up her bare thigh, and she slapped it away. I flashed a cheesy grin at her, and she tried harder not to laugh.
"Uhm, okay. Breakfast is ready. Wake your sister and McKenzie." She said, and I listened to her footsteps as she walked away. Kenzie and I burst out in silent laughter before I connected our lips in a swift kiss.
"How about a quickie?" I offered, and she slapped my chest playfully, already sliding out of my bed. I stared at her cute butt as she collected the pajamas that she had borrowed from Cassidy last night from the floor and hastily putting them on.

McKenzie's POV
How could we have been so careless? How could I have been so careless? We didn't realise it at the time because we were caught in the moment, but now it was like a giant elephant in the room. I had breakfast with the Irwins, then quickly headed home. I didn't make much conversation with Cassidy or Anne.
I spent the entire day locked up in my bedroom, allowing myself to not think about it. I drew and wrote countless entries in my journal. Random poems and short stories. I had no idea where my cell phone was, and I only left my room for food and the bathroom. I didn't even know that mother was home, until she came knocking on my door to announce that I had a visitor.
Ashton sauntered into the room and perched himself atop my bed. I didn't look up from my drawing of feathers, but I of course knew that he was in the room. He waited patiently for me to lift my head, which didn't take too long, because knowing that he was staring bothered me.
"Are we not going to talk about this?" He asked.
"Hello to you too." I muttered. I didn't like the tension, so I crawled over to him and kissed him swiftly.
"Hi." He said after the kiss was broken.
"There is nothing to talk about. It happened." I shrugged.
"We need to consider what the consequences might be."
"Do you have any STDs?" I asked pointedly.
"What?" He frowned.
"I don't. Do you?"
"No."
"Good." I nodded. "Sorted."
"Baby, we both know that STDs aren't the only issue. You're avoiding the big one."
"I'm not pregnant, Ashton." I murmured.
"We don't know that for sure." He sighed, and I knew that I had to tell him.
"I can't get pregnant." I mumbled.
"What?"
"I can't get pregnant." I repeated. "While I was in the hospital, in the first week I was put through various tests. The doctors found that I have a problem in my womb. I may be able to fall pregnant, but the chances of carrying full term are very slim."
"Do you know why? I mean, is it a genetic thing?" He asked, after having taken a moment to absorb all of this information.
"No." I sighed, holding onto his hand. I knew that what I was to tell him could change the way he felt about me. The way he looked at me. But I also knew that I had to tell him. I loved Ashton, and I wanted a future with him, but some things from my past just had to be revealed.
