Chapter Four

"Jason, what the HELL?!" Teddy screeches an octave high. He pushes past both of us with a strength I didn't previously attribute to the short boy. "You know how long I have been working on this piece!"

He pulls me away from the wall that I had been thrown against. I turn to see the smeared mess of colors and realize my shirt is wet.

"Aww Teddy, I'm sorry," Jason gulps.

"I don't like jealousy, Jason. I don't like when you try to posses me. I have told you this over and over again. I am a person, not your FUCKING TRUCK! And this shows no respect for me, Brian, or my things."

Excluding the part where he yelled, Teddy remains calm but stern. I see Jason as the man who tries to dominate, and Teddy as the loving creature that says gently, "Hell no."

"Jason, I need you to leave. I will speak to you later."

He looks upset, face going red. "Is HE staying?"

"I do believe that it is none of your business. I live here, not you," Teddy keeps a straight face. I shuffle my feet, feeling awkward.

"Then move in with me! I've asked you before!"

"Don't start this, Jason. You ask me when we're fighting, so I have a reason not to leave you. Some trust would be lovely."

Teddy starts pushing Jason to the door. He isn't rough, but he doesn't leave room for misunderstanding.

Jason throws me a dagger-like glare as he leaves. I do my best not to appear too angry after Teddy's little outburst.

Teddy looks me over, contemplative.

"Take off your shirt," he commands.

I blush. "What?"

His features soften. "You poor thing. You haven't been around people since the awkward teenage years. You haven't had to change around a person in forever. You must be shy."

I nod slightly.

He smiles a little.

"Don't worry, sweetie, I promise not to judge- or jump your bones," he smirks at that. "I have fabulous self control, I promise."

I chuckle at first until I realize that means he has tested it before, probably in...inappropriate ways. I blush a deeper red.

"You're a little virgin, aren't you?" Teddy, in his innocent demeanor makes the term virgin sound even worse.

"I was fifteen when the world, like, ended," I pouted. "Besides, girls didn't really like me."

"See, that's why I can't even try to be straight," Teddy pouts. "You are so freaking cute that I can't see how they wouldn't want you and your...well, I'll stop, seeing as how rosy your face is at the moment."
I just take my shirt off and hand it to him, arms crossing over my bare chest.

He puts the shirt into a washing machine- Oh wow, I've missed those!- and walks back to me.
"So will your painting be okay?" I ask. He stands beside me as we look at it.
"I think it actually is better than it was. See! Now it's a sunset!"

I look at the mixture of different colors: orange, red, pink, blue, and purple.

"I miss sunsets. They were so beautiful. Now it's just gray all the time," I reach my hand out, almost touching the painting, but not quite.

"I know, I miss them, too," he hands me a blanket that I wrap around myself. He lays his head on my shoulder. I wrap my left arm around him, including him under the blanket. We stumble over to the couch where we curl up around each other.

"So tell me, why don't you like my friends, other than the fact that Jason is on his man period?"
I laugh. "Jessie was very...loud and...confusing... I haven't been around people...for so long...it's hard to remember how to behave. How to respond and react. And she was so intensely...social, I guess is the word, that I can't accept it so quickly."

"I can wrap my head around that," he nods in understanding." And you said Polly was okay?"
"She was quieter, less obnoxious, I guess," I shrug." Oops- obnoxious is a mean word, I think. I'm sorry."

He smiles, nuzzling up to me like a cute little cat.

"You're okay. Whatever you say to me stays between us."

"Good, I like that I can trust you."

"You trust me?" His eyes get wide and hopeful, and I notice the intense need to make him happy, to not let him down.

"You're the only person I have trusted in a long, long time," I vow truthfully. His smile splits his face.

"Thank you," he whispers before we slip into a silence. He drifts off eventually, still cuddling me. I lay my cheek against the top of his head. Giving into temptation, I press my lips to his dark hair, and enjoy the feel of his body pressed against my bare skin. I want to get used to this desperately, but a part of me remembers he is pledged to someone else.

For Teddy's sake, and my own, I ignore the jealousy that burns in my heart. _____________________________________________________________________________ Wow guys you really seem to like this story!!
