Chapter Eighteen
I search the house; Teddy isn't in any of the rooms. His scooter is still in front of the house. He isn't in the back yard.
Bear is at the front door, whining loudly, scratching at the barrier to the outside.
I look around, not sure what is driving him so crazy. Then, I see the door jam. Specifically, I see the red on the door jam. The red is drying into brown, looking and smelling similar to rust.
I can't even gasp out his name. My anger is running too high, is taking over my brain in a way that makes me see red, and my mind becomes focused on one single goal.
I will find Teddy. I will catch Jason. And be damned if I won't show him how tough and merciless living alone can make a person.
I break into Jason's house. At this point, I don't give a flying fuck in Neverneverland if I get in trouble. Teddy is my boyfriend, my first kiss, my future, my fucking WORLD, and Jason is in the way of all of that.
"Where's he at?"
I jump, startled to see Rachel behind me. Her footsteps were eerily silent...must be a mom thing.
"What..."
"Don't play dumb, Brian. Where is my son? Teddy never not answers his phone. NEVER. He is too considerate for that."
I look at her, with the dark hair and eyes like her son's.
"I don't know. But I'm pretty sure Jason kidnapped him."
The look of fear on her face lasts a fraction of a second before the unadulterated fury set in. Momma Bear has apparently kicked in.
"You about to break in?"
"Yupp."
"I'm coming with you."
"Alright."
I try the window, find it to do unlocked, and I slip inside on my belly. I tuck and roll, looking around the dark room. There's no one here apparently. Rachel is behind me, and she grabs my arm softly, pointing to the hallway. I am confused. She puts her finger to her lips, urging me to be quiet. I listen. It's then that I hear it.
Footsteps. Creaking floors. Adrenaline pumping through my blood. The curtains are all drawn. Despite the fact that it is day time, and slightly lighter than the night, I can't see anything. I am only filled with the sense of dread as Jason looms closer.
I pull out my switchblade, tensing as it makes a little whoosh as the blade makes its appearance.
The scream echoes in the dark house. Before I know it, I have her pinned down with my blade to her throat.
"Where is he?!" I growl at Polly.
It wasn't Jason, only Polly, which left the big question still pit there: where are they?
"AAAHHHH!" Is her only response. That dies quickly as the blade presses harder into her skin. She resorts to whimpering, blubbering, and I find it disgusting.
"Shut up, now! I know you know where he is. Tell me where he took him!"
"I don't know what you're talking about!" she sobs.
"Yes you fucking do! Where is Jason?"
"Out!"
"What does that mean!" She continues to cry on silence. "So help you, you little whore, I will cut you!"
