Chapter Six
Teddy and I fall quickly into a pattern. Over the next week, everyday we get up around seven, make a quick breakfast of eggs and toast, then he goes to work; I stay at home, cleaning up what needs to be done, and get dinner prepared. I train myself how to work technology I never thought I would have access to again, and I even have time to read a book or two, both cheesy romance novels. I chuckle as I think of Teddy curled up, cup of tea in hand, while he sighs at the handsome hero or scowling at the sheer predictability of it all.
Of course, my favorite part of the day is when my Teddy (not yours, I remind myself) comes home. He looks tired, but those blue eyes brighten while that sweet smile spreads across his face. He breathes in deeply.
"Dinner smells wonderful," he grins, coming up behind me where I stand at the stove. I freeze in anticipation when his arm wraps around me, but it's just to steal food. I swat his hand away.
"Wait until we're at the table," I chastise. He frowns a bit.
"If you really want some..." I start.
"No, no, it's not that; Brian, I have plans tonight. I totally forgot to tell you."
I try my best to hide my disappointment. "Oh, that's alright. What do you have planned?"
"Well, actually, Jason is taking me out to dinner, then we'll go back to his place and watch a movie, and...other things," he looks away, not making eye contact. Unjustifiable rage and disgust sweeps through me.
"Other things?" I question in a soft voice. I don't want to hear this answer, but I need to.
"Brian, honey, Jason and I, we've been together for awhile now. We do adult activities together. It comes with a mature relationship. I know you never had to...mature in the normal way, but this is okay. We're being safe, I promise," his hand cupped my cheek gently.
This wasn't what I wanted to hear at all. My cheeks are burning, I can feel them. I hope he attributes it to my embarrassment at The Talk rather than my anger. I don't want to act like a petulant toddler having to share his toy. That is the last thing that will get Teddy's approval.
"Okay," I choke out, turning back to the stove. I turn the dial to off as I take the mac n cheese off the burner. I eat some of the noodles with fried chicken alone at the dinner table while Teddy gets ready.
He comes out, showered, shaved, in some tight pants that make his ass look sinful and a blue shirt that were the exact color of his eyes. His brown hair is curlier than ever, wet at this ends, and as I watch, a little drop makes its way down the side of his neck. Without thinking, I make my way over, reaching out and following the trail with my finger, pressure light.
As I watch, little goose bumps rise on his skin and his breath hitches. We make eye contact as I lick the little droplet off my finger tip. He gulps, eyes flickering down to my mouth for a moment.
"I-I..." he manages to get out. I reach out, my finger grazing those plump lips. They're so soft, lightly covered in a layer of chap stick. His little tongue darts out, just grazing the tip of my finger, causing my heart to race. I lean down, watching as he lifts up on his tip toes...
DING DONG
The doorbell rings out, breaking us apart. We stare at each other in shock.
"Teddy!" Jason's voice rings out; he's let himself in.
"And you just press input for the third time to get you over to the DVD player, alright?" Teddy says as if we had been having a conversation previously. I catch on.
"And that's the second remote, right?" I ask, knowing that all the time I keep up the fake conversation, the less time Teddy and Jason have to do 'other things.'
"Teddy, we have a reservation," Jason interupts.
"Of course," Teddy looks over with a smile. "Good bye, Brian. Try not to break anything," he lifts up on his tip toes to kiss my cheek. I lean down to wrap my arms around his narrow waist, making eye contact with Jason over his shoulder. He glares.
Teddy turns around to Jason, who lifts him up in arms much larger than mine, kissing him fiercely in a way that I am not allowed to. He opens his eyes a sliver during this to make sure I'm looking, and that I know Teddy isn't mine.
"Come on, baby," Jason walks Teddy out the door. "After dinner, I want to show you some new...toys I got. They're in my bedroom..."
The door shuts behind them. I wait until the truck engine fades into the background before I scream my throat hoarse in rage.
I sleep in Teddy's bed, surrounded by his scent, trying to find comfort from the emotional turmoil fighting inside me. I ignore the angry tears that race down my cheeks at different intervals in the night. The door opens at 3:45 in the morning. I wake up to the creeking on the floor, still accustomed to quiet. I see Teddy in the hallway light. His hair is messy and his clothes are wrinkled, his shirt backwards. He has a little smile on his face, a satisfied air about him. Even from where I lay, I can smell Jason all over him. I hate it.
He stumbles into the bathroom. I hear the shower turn on. Steam and the fragrance of Teddy's body wash drift out from the cracked door.
I watch the dark wall, waiting for him to come to bed. When he does, he's in nothing but little boy shorts. I can't see the color, but I can see the shape of what is beneath, and, for one of the first times in my life, I have to control myself for fear of acting out of lust.
"I saw your eyes open," he chuckles, his voice a little hoarse.
"Mhm," my voice croaks, thick with sleep.
"You're in my bed," he giggles. My mood brightens a litte at the sound.
"More comfy than the couch," I reach out a hand, finding him in the dark, and pulling him flush against me. I am in nothing but cotton pants, the feelig of my bare chest against his warm, damp one is one of sinful pleasure.
"I love that you're a cuddler," he chuckles, wrapping his arms around my back and tucking his head under my chin.
"Mmm?"
"It's so rare to find someone to cuddle with me. I love it," he smiles. I press my nose to his hair; Jason's scent is nowhere to be found. Speaking of which...
"How was Date Night?" I ask, because Screw my mental health, that's why.
"Pretty good, Jason asked after you," he shrugs.
"What did you say?"
"We keep a respectable distance from each other and do nothing that would make my mother flinch," he sounds proud. "Now, what he deems respectable and what I deem respectable are completely different things, and frankly, my mother wouldn't flinch if a bull in a bikini was running full speed at her."
I burst out laughing, because that's just so TEDDY that I can't resist warming up to him.
"There's that gorgeous laugh I love," he teases, fingers tickling over my rib cage. This leads to a full scale tickle war where, after much contorting and twisting on limbs, our legs are wrapped up together and I have him pinned down to the matress. Our faces are so close we're breathing the same air. I am conscious enough to worry about my sleep-breath.
"Do me a favor, if you can," Teddy suddenly begs.
"Alright," I say.
He makes eye contact.
"Don't make me fall in love with you."
