I stared numbly down at the dead body in front of me, still on my knees. My brain still wasn't fully processing what had happened as my eyes took in his dark hair, the rumpled trench coat, the dark red blood stain on the white shirt of his suit. His piercing blue eyes were hidden behind his closed eyelids. And, of course, there was the burnt shadow of two massive wings spanning outward on the ground beneath him.
He was dead. Lucifer killed him. Then Lucifer got trapped in that other world... with my mother. It was all too much. I was broken from my trance as an ear-piercing scream echoed from within the walls of the cabin. Looking over, I saw a light coming from one of the upper level windows and then a moment later it and the scream stopped. Rising to my feet numbly, I forced myself to walk away from Castiel's dead vessel and head toward the lake house.
When I stepped through the door, a boy who appeared to be in his early 20's with light brown hair, blue-grey eyes, light grey wings and very much naked was standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"Who-" I started.
"Ellie?" he asked.
My breath hitched in my throat.
"How do you know my name?"
"Where's my father?"
"Your... father?"
"I have to find my father."
"J-Jack?" I whispered.
Instead of answering, the boy moved past me and headed out the door.
"Jack, wait!"
The Nephilim didn't listen to me, continuing on his path to find his father. Torn between following him and heading upstairs to check on Sam and Dean, my need to make sure my husband and brother were okay ultimately won out.
"Dean?" I called. "Sammy?"
Running up the stairs, I found them both passed out in Jack's nursery.
"Dean? Sammy?"
My husband groaned, stirring under my touch as his brother also started to come to nearby.
"E-Ellie? Where is he?"
"Where's... who?"
"Lucifer Junior. Where did he go?"
"Y-you mean Jack? He- he left..."
"Can he teleport?"
"What?"
"Does he have wings?"
I swallowed, thinking of the light grey wings I'd seen on Jack's back.
"He... Yeah, he does, but I don't know if he knows how to use them."
Dean swore, getting to his feet and picking up his gun that had flown from his hand when Jack knocked him and Sam out. Sam and I followed him back downstairs and out to the Impala, heading to track Jack down.
"We still have holy oil, right?" Dean asked, white-knuckling the wheel.
"For what?" Sam asked.
"'Cause we're gonna have to hit him with everything we got."
"Hold on a second," I protested. "Can we talk about what happened back there?"
"Sure. Which part?" Dean growled. "Let's see. Crowley's dead, Kelly's dead, Cass is-"
I shrunk back in my seat as he paused, thinking of the image of Castiel's dead vessel seared in my brain.
"Your mom's gone, and apparently, the Devil's kid hit puberty in thirty seconds flat," he continued. "Oh, and almost killed me and Sam."
"Yeah, because you tried to shoot him," Sam reminded his brother.
"I tried to shoot the monster, Sam. It's kind of what we do."
"We don't know what he is yet, Dean. And I had it under control."
"I'm sorry. Are you defending the Son of Satan?"
"I'm not defending anything," Sam argued. "I'm just saying, look, with everything that's happened, we're obviously all spun out, but we need a plan."
"Yeah, kill him! Okay? That's the plan. Look, right now all that matters is finding him, and ending him, before he hurts anybody else. And once we do that we'll figure everything else out."
"What about Cass?" Sam looked back at me in the backseat. "Is he- is he really dead?"
I opened my mouth to reply, but the words got stuck in my throat.
"You know he is," Dean said, tone hard and emotionless as he kept his eyes glued straight ahead.
I closed my eyes, fighting the urge to start crying. A few minutes later, Sam had Dean pull into the parking lot of a Pirate Pete's.
"Well. You really think Lucifer Junior is at Pirate Pete's Jolly Treats?" Dean quipped. "That he was like what, 'before I destroy the world, let me just grab a bag of curly fries'?"
"Look, if he would've kept to the main road, he would have walked past it. And I don't know-"
"Fine, just make it quick."
"You're not coming?"
"No," Dean shook his head. "Look, maybe you're right. Maybe the Devil's kid is in there just hanging out. Or maybe he's halfway across the country, torching Chicago. I'm gonna call Jody, check in, see if she can't help us put a nationwide APB out on the creepy satanic nudist."
"Good," Sam nodded.
"Good is not the word I'd use."
"Ellie, you coming?"
I looked up, looking between the two brothers and opening my mouth with a sharp inhale. However, I just let the breath out and closed my mouth without saying anything. All I could do was shake my head, still unable to make my voice work. Sam just nodded in understanding, giving me a sympathetic look.
"I'll be right back."
He headed toward the restaurant, walking inside and leaving Dean and I alone by the Impala.
"Ellie, I'm sorry," Dean whispered after a moment. "I didn't think-"
"Whatever, Dean," I choked out, walking away.
I headed around the back of the restaurant by the restrooms so I was out of Dean's line of sight.
"Okay, Chuck... or God, or whatever," I began. "I need your help. See you, you left us. You left us. You went off. You said... You said the earth would be fine because it had me... and it had Sam and Dean, but it's not, and we're not. We've lost everything..."
My voice began to break.
"And now you're gonna bring him back. Okay? You're gonna bring back Cass, you're gonna bring back Mom, you're gonna bring 'em all back. All of 'em. Even Crowley. 'Cause after everything you've done, you owe us, you son of a bitch. So you get your ass down here and you make this right, right here and right now."
I paused, waiting for some kind of answer, but it quickly became clear one wasn't coming. Feeling something in me snap, I began punching a wooden sign on the side of the building, bloodying my knuckles in the process.
"Please," I sobbed, looking up at the sky. "Please help us."
