A few weeks turned into a few months. Jasper continued to breeze by in school and at his new work with Matt and Foggy. Lizzie found friends to hang out with almost every day when he had work till he was done for the night.

He finally had money to support the two of them a little bit.

He was able to get them dinner and something nice if he had extra. He finally could have the thought of one day getting a place of his own and leaving his dad, having a place where Lizzie and he could be safe.

He finished work for the night and walked back to the trailer. Lizzie had a birthday party sleepover for the night so he walked home alone, passing the dimly lit park on his way home.

He made it to the trailer and tensed up as he passed the threshold into the living space. "Evening dad.." he muttered, putting his bag down as he grabbed a pop from the fridge. His father huffed, laying on the couch.

"Where the hell do you go for the afternoon? You're never around anymore" He stated, sitting up as he grabbed a cigarette. Jasper gulped as he cracked the can open, and took a drink from it.

"Work" he hesitantly stated. "Got a job," he said. His father raised a brow, his lighter clicking as he lit his cigarette.

"You? A job? Where at?" he asked. "Fast food? You selling on the street boy?" Jasper rolled his eyes.

"No. Unlike you I can get a good job" he snapped slightly. His old man got up and walked up to him, knocking the pop can out of his hand.

"WHAT YOU SAY TO ME!" he snarled in his face, grabbing his collar. The cigarette pressed almost against Jasper's neck, the hot end warming the surface of his skin. Jasper growled and pushed him off with a hard shove into the counter.

"I got a job for myself, unlike you!" he yelled back, clenching his fists. "Unlike you who sent your kid on a drug delivery and almost died because of it!" he expressed, clenching his jaw. "I'm making a living for myself so I can make Lizzie's life better than this shithole!" His father glared at him, his eye twitching.

"Really," he stated. "You gonna leave and make me live here all alone." He scoffed, standing straight. "You're just like your mother, leaving because you can't get what you want" he sneered, spitting in Jasper's face.

He froze, tears falling. His fist shook, his heart hammering in his chest. "Oh, now you're quiet? Where'd all that confidence go, HUH BOY!" he screamed in his face. Jasper flinched, every becoming fuzzy.

He never mentioned his mom.

His father grabbed him by the collar and threw him to the ground. "As much as you'd like to think, you're not leaving. The only way you or your sister is leaving is if you're in a body bag" he stated as he kicked Jasper in the chest, his boot colliding with the boy's ribs. Jasper gasped for air, struggling to get up as each kick came. He struggled for air, each breath he took getting knocked out of him. His father paused, panting as he knelt, grabbing the boy's face as he caught his breath. "Get out, I don't want you here till the morning" he whispered in his ear, retracting his hand before landing a finishing punch across his cheek. Jasper gasped and coughed hard, spitting some blood onto the carpet as he watched his father grab another beer and sit back in his spot on the couch.

His ears rang as he pulled himself to his feet, his hand grabbing onto his backpack strap as he stumbled out of the trailer.
