~ALLIE POV~
"Charlie's got some great ideas on how to keep you two safe." Bernard explained as we walked around the toy shop.
"Santa, little elf, this is Quintet, head of research and development." Bernard introduced us to an elf.
"Quintet, nice to meet ya," Dad said, shaking his head.
The elf stuck his hand out to me, which I shook to, though I wasn't as enthusiastic as dad.
"Hello, Santa," the elf said, his voice thick with an accent. "Charlie and I put our heads together, and I think we've got a few surprises for you."
"This is some of the best stuff that's come out of the workshop since...the bowl." Bernard said.
"Fabulous," Dad said.
"What happens if we fall off the roof?" I demanded.
Bernard ignored me, and I glanced down at Coco who was following beside me. She pulled a face, making her eyes go wide and I smiled a bit. We walked into a room where there were a bunch of needles and threads and sewing machines. Dad and I sat in front of a spot as Bernard showed us some outfits.
"Fireplaces are no longer a problem."
I watched with wide eyes as fire shot out at a suit.
"It's a new fabric," Quintet said. "Completely flame resistant."
"Yeah, but we aren't." I snapped, looking at the burned stuffed Santa and helper.
"It's light, yet durable." Quintet said, ignoring me.
"And, you can wear the jumpsuit under your coat and pants." Coco said.
"But what do I do if Allie or I fall off a roof?" Dad asked.
The question was once again ignored and Dad and I reluctantly put on the suits. I walked out and said, "I feel like an idiot."
"You look like one too," Bernard said.
I didn't even bother looking at him, but Coco tugged my arm. "Don't listen to Bernard."
I smiled down at her, and we made our way outside to the sleigh. Dad picked up a card from Comet and smiled rubbing his back. "What a sweet boy."
"This is a nice rope," Dad smiled. "Is this in case we fall off the roof?"
Comet grunted and nodded. "Comet this means a lot to me, thanks a lot buddy."
Dad got in the sleigh with Charlie, and I reluctantly climbed in. "You ready to go, sport? Allie?"
"You betcha, Dad." Charlie smiled.
I just shook my head, sinking in my seat. I glanced over at all the elves and watched as they all smiled. I saw Quintet and Bernard share a look and smile. Coco gave me a thumbs up as she stood beside her brother, and I smiled back meekly. The sleigh lifted and I gasped. I was never going to get used to this.
