Images flashed before you as your eyes fluttered open and shut again. One of Clyde's heartbroken worried face, Jimmy opening the door to the Bronco, flashes of white walls, and now nothing. The only thing you could remember was the overwhelming feeling of tiredness and the dull ache in your head. This was all so overwhelming you weren't sure what to do. All you wanted was Clyde.
The sound of soft beeps were in the background almost falling in time with the scuff of heavy footsteps pacing back and forth. Your eyes twitched but didn't open. Taking a deep breath that stale sanitary smell filled your nose and you knew exactly where you were. The hospital. You hated the hospital because it reminded you of your father being so sick. Tears wanted to spring from your closed eyes, but you held off for a moment when you heard a voice. Dolly.
"Clyde dear, I think she's waking up." she said softly as she leaned onto the bed grasping your hand.
The sound of pacing stopped and you rustled a little, feeling the scratch of the sheets. You hummed softly, eyes opening slightly. Voice gravely from sleep trying to focus, "What happened?"
Dolly stood up and cupped your face with her other hand voice full of relief, "oh ladybug, it's all okay."
You nodded trusting her knowing she would never steer you wrong. Her words settled a little bit of the nerves in you but you knew the only person who could cure them was Clyde, and everyone knew that too. The room was silent for a moment as you came to, taking everything in. You rub your eyes while Dolly dotes on you for a moment making sure you were tucked in just right and holding your hand with hers patting it in her affectionate way that always grounded you.
Finally looking over your eyes follow Clyde's tall stature. His dark jeans, wrinkled button up that was rolled up exposing all of his metal hand, and then the most heart wrenching concerned look on his face. The two of you just stared at each other for a second till he stepped forward closer to you.
Dolly patted your hand once more and leaned in to kiss your cheek, "Ima go let the nurse know you're awake."
You glanced at her for a quick moment to nod acknowledging her words then stared right back at Clyde by the side of your bed. Your eyes started to tear up and as soon as the door closed they fell. Clyde was quick to sit on the side of your bed and scoop you into his arms. Weakly you clung to him letting you sob into his chest. His voice was gentle and deep with a crack of sadness in it as he soothed you, "It's okay, Sunshine. It's okay."
Taking deep breaths you cried again knowing that it was now that Clyde had you in his arms. It was just so scary because you had no idea of what was going on. He did this over and over pressing his lips against your head till you finally calmed down.
Tears finally stopped, you took a breath looking up at him asking defeatedly, "what happened?"
His jaw twitched as his hand cupped the side of your face looking down at you. Wiping the leftover tears away with his thumb he just looked at you for a moment afraid he was going to miss something important, like he was afraid of losing you. Clyde's lips parted and he didn't say anything at first till, "you passed out in my arms at the bar."
Your brows furrowed trying to make the connections. Your brain was a little fuzzy still but you were starting to remember the argument between the two of you, your headache, the strange feeling that was setting in during your shift, and the need to apologize to Clyde, but everything in between and after was not registering. Everything was trying to piece together causing you to stammer, "I.. I uhm... Oh god honey. Im so sorry. I just..."
