AN: I just wanted to say sorry for the wait for updates. Writing has been weird lately. I just wanted to thank everyone who's been enjoying this story so far with me. This story and Clyde have a very special place in my heart!
With that being said I have about 5 chapters left planned for this story. So I just wanted to let you all know before we get too close to the end!
Thank you all so much again for reading it literally means the world to me! Enjoy!
Love, Liz~~
The road trip back home took an extra day or so due to the much needed detours Clyde and you took. Any time you asked to stop to look at something or take a view in Clyde pulled over immediately. You'd jump out and run through a field of wildflowers or lead Clyde through a small little artist market in awe of their talent. The whole time never giving Clyde the opportunity to shy away or overthink something. It was just the two of you and it was perfect.
Now that everything was out in the open between the two of you it felt so real. Like for the first time neither of you were living in your heads where insecurities and doubt influenced your ideals. Everything was honest and genuine and tangible. With every touch, look, or even breath it was done in love. Real love like those old cowboys used to sing about. It was right there and you could feel it and see it in Clyde and Clyde in you.
The two of you finally hopped into the Bronco after almost missing the check out time at the motel the two of you had to stop at last night, even though it was just a little over an hour away from home. However, you both were just a little too engrossed in each other to make it all the way home. You had been driving and Clyde had pulled out a few books from your secret stash you found when going through the storage unit. He was going through them and of course teased you lightly about your cute little romance books.
With a slightly flushed smile you giggle, "stop it they're good!"
Clyde chuckled and scooted in closer to you placing a soft kiss to your shoulder then resting his chin on it to look at you, "I know they are. It's just so cute, Sunshine."
You take your eyes off the road for a quick second to glance at his handsome half pout only making your pink cheeks redden even more. Rolling your eyes you giggle again then try to focus back on the road. Clyde stayed close and picked a book thumbing through and reading a page or two out loud. It was a good story about childhood friends finding each other later in life as adults and renovating a home together and falling in love. Clyde put it down and grabbed another one doing the same. This one was a rom-com filled with witty banter which made even him laugh softly to himself. Then out of the corner of your eye you saw a dark book cover and memories of the storyline flashed in your mind. Embarrassment started to creep in.
Reaching a hand over trying to take the book from him Clyde expertly dodged your grasp, "Honey don't look at that one."
His brow raised and he held the book tight to his chest, a smirk pulling his lips, "why?"
Your words stammer a little trying to come up with an excuse. It wasn't that it was even that bad of a romance book, but with the southern ideals and morals you had been raised with, the idea of someone seeing it and contributing it to you was uncomfortable. Even if it was Clyde who you've done much more risque things than what was described in that book.
Clyde could see the pink flush crawling across your chest and cheeks and it thrilled him to learn this little tidbit about you. His sweet sunshine, so warm and kind hearted, secretly reading something like this. It made him love you even more. He narrowed his eyes, keeping the book out of your reach, imploring you to explain yourself.
Hands gripping the steering wheel tighter you let out a defeated huff voice small and vulnerable, "it's just a little embarrassing."
The smile that spread across Clyde's face brought out that dimple. He leaned over and wrapped his arm around you. Leaning in he nuzzled into your neck. Goosebumps spread across the skin that his facial hair brushed. His lips pressed by your ear making it difficult to stay focused on the road, "you don't ever have to be embarrassed with me, Sunshine."
