Back in ancient times, as humans progressed to evolve further, their DNA was split in two directions.

One of the common folks, those people who were born with strong hearts and minds and have survived for thousands of years to live a fulfilling life. They were not perfect, but they held a beauty not known to any other species.

The other is those of supremes, who mutated and became strong, divine, and born leaders. They may look human, but they hold powers beyond imagination and with their powerful nature, they were meant to be rulers from the day they were born.

With such a difference in values, the world was bound to be thrown into an age of war. With the power of the human mind and the strength of their mutated bodies, the winner was to be the supremes. They had overruled their master and taken the lead. Yet they still found beauty in the humans and their will to fight for justice.

Therefore, the supremes gave the humans a gift. A gift with the ability to give them strength, protection, and love. To give such a gift, a supreme would have to create a pact between them and a human that they find prepossessing and rightful of such a present. It's a contract of one year that would grant a human the taste of supreme life. If the human finds such a life appealing, they will have the possibility to seal the pact and live forever above the rest of the human race as an endear. The greatest possession of the supremes.

However, with such a great gift follows great responsibility. Once the pact has been sealed, the endear and supreme must live the rest of their life in harmony. The endears will forever be bound to the life of their supreme until the end of their days.

As a sign of affection, the endear will be granted a seal on both wrists and their necks to show loyalty...

"...and faithfulness towards their supreme... isn't that just another way of describing manipulation?" Raiden smacks the book shut with an annoyed sigh before lazily throwing it on top of the dinner table before him. The words 'the great rise of the supremes' stare back at him from the front cover of the book, leaving him even more pissed off than when he opened the first page an hour ago.

"You know it's not like that anymore," the gentle and caring voice of Raiden's father, Haruki, speaks, "Those were ancient times. Just like it stated."

They are currently in their small kitchen, with Raiden sitting at the dinner table preparing a presentation for next week and Haru cleaning up the dishes from today's meal.

"I get that, but that doesn't change the fact that supremes still have the ability to force someone into a pact," Raiden grabs his pen and starts writing down an angry statement on his paper for no particular reason, "And why do we have to learn about it in their language? They are describing themselves as gods or something."

"Well, compared to us... they kind of are like gods," Haru smiles gently at his son and puts the now dry plate down, "Plus, it's good to learn from history. That way we might avoid conflicts in the future."

Raiden sighs again. In his 25 years of living, he has grown a sort of hatred towards supremes. He isn't necessarily a good or a bad person. Actually, he might be leaning towards bad according to the people around him. However, he is quite famous for the strong sense of justice he has within him. He can't stand the idea of the supremes still having the ability to create a pact with a human, with or without the human's consent... for an entire year.
