Adrian waved his hand broadly.
— And so the exterior is also all yours. What do you think of it?
Marc and Gavin were with Adrian on their fifth visit. This time it was a duplex apartment at the top of a building. Loft type, the floor area was more than 150m2 and the open spaces could be separated by removable partitions between the large concrete pillars. The ceiling peaked at more than four meters high and a staircase led to a mezzanine which took up half of the apartment. The upstairs mezzanine opened onto three large rooms and a bathroom. Below, from the mezzanine was the open kitchen and another bathroom as well as a smaller room that could be used as a dressing room. The rest was in open space. The large windows that rose to the ceiling brought in the fading light of the evening and opened onto the roof of the building. The view of the city was spectacular. The land was landscaped with planters and grass. An above ground pool took up some of the space. The decoration was wood and metal type between industrial and countryside. Adrian continued emphatically.
— More than 220m2 of living space so each of you will find its place. A landscaped outdoor garden without the inconveniences. No vis-à-vis, no noisy roads nearby, no neighbors. A rental with a view to purchase is completely negotiable and the price...!
Mark crossed his arms.
— Besides, why is the price so low?
The real estate agent sighed.
— I have the truth or the less brutal truth.
Mark raised an eyebrow. Adrian flashed a smile.
— The less brutal truth is that following the death of the former owner, the heirs do not want to be burdened with such an eccentric property and are ready to sell it 30% less than it is worth.
— And the real truth?
— Murder followed by suicide. He drowned his mistress in the pool and hanged himself right after. It's more common than you think. This accommodation is exceptional and you will not find an equivalent at a better price. It happened three or four years ago but because of that it was never sold. The heirs are fed up and have decided to drastically lower the price. You want me to tell you, this accommodation deserves a happy life filled with love! A place lives with its inhabitants. If you are sad, so is it.
Gavin looked around.
— It looks dismal right now.
A ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and lit up the room. Marc put a hand on Gavin's shoulder.
— Not anymore, look at this. It's bright.
Gavin looked at Mark.
— Do you like it ?
— Yes.
Adrian smiled and waved his hand vaguely.
— I let you talk between you, I'll call the agency!
He opened one of the bays to go into the garden. Gavin looked around again, the apartment was really nice. He was already imagining such and such a piece of furniture installed in such and such a place. He could already see himself having breakfast on the terrace. He sighed. Marc, meanwhile, watched Gavin's face as he held him in his arms. He read that face like a book. He saw in it the envy, the hope, the intelligence and the sadness that darkened the eyes of honey. He caressed his face.
— It is perfect.
— The price is high ! We don't need such a big space.
— It's true... but look! We would be fine here. And then, you don't have to buy but just rent for a while, see if it works.
