Winter

Winter comes fast and hard dads wound is getting infected and we have yet to find him any medicine me and Ellie go hunting most days but today she said she'd go alone saying I looked like shit and I needed some rest so I let her go I check dad's temperature and my shitty attempt at stitches and sigh "come on dad your starting to get annoying I know your fine so you need to wake the fuck up"

He doesn't I sigh and wrap my scarf around him to keep him warm I stand and grab my bag "I'm gonna go find Ellie don't go anywhere " I joke and leave the house we set up in I follow the horse tracks to the hunting ground we have been going to too when I see the horse tied up i frown and pet his nose "now where did our girl go huh" I ask I saddle up and start riding trying to find Ellie is harder then I thought then I hear gunshots a lot of them "shit" I kick the horses sides and we race towards the gunshots

I see smoke coming from a building I get off the horse and silently walk in then I see Ellie talking to some guy I can't hear what their talking about but the hair on my neck stands up i watch Ellie stand and aim a rifle at him I then pump my shot gun and stand in front of Ellie "ah the other girl has joined us" I don't say anything "James lower the gun" Ellie turns and aims her gun at James David makes James give medicine to Ellie she takes it "good now that we all have what we want we'll be on our way James if you move I'll blow your fucking head off" I say way to sweetly he does and me and Ellie run to the horse

"What the fuck El who were those guys" I ask "apparently the same group that was at the firefly lab" I shake my head "shit we gotta get dad up and moving "

We get back to the house we rush downstairs and Ellie gives dad the medicine "I'll take first watch El you get some sleep" "what Ash you've barely been sleeping" I nod "I know but I'm okay" "bullshit your bags have bags " "JUST let me do this let me protect my family" I say Ellie sighs and lays down I smile at her and keep watch outside it's so quiet I can hear my own heart pounding in my chest I look to Ellie who is sleeping peacefully and smile
