i wish i could fathom
how everything changes so fast
how you can be on the tip
of an iceberg
but you never fall

i wish i knew why the leaves
dry up and detach
from the limbs that gave them life
in the midst of autumn
a beautiful death i suppose

why an animal with such a pure heart
that loves unconditionally
before they have met you
can only see certain colors
when there is an elaborate rainbow

the world can be so cruel
yet we love it so much
that we cling to life
