Signy never understood the extravagant celebrations Midgardians threw yearly to commemorate aging another year. On Asgard, they lived too long to celebrate any such thing; It started feeling tedious when Odin turned 1,000 and that was a long, long time ago. By the time Signy was born, birthday parties were a thing of the past. And her birthday was just that: the day she was born.
However, when she formally spent time on Midgard beginning four years ago and found her obsession in the strange realm's pop culture, she was fascinated with the idea. Movies like Sixteen Candles and Thirteen Going on Thirty made such a big deal out of them. Suddenly, all Signy wanted was to throw someone the perfect birthday party. And it was finally time that she joined in on the fun.
With the arrival of the Maximoff's birthday came Signy's immediate devotion to the idea. With immense help from Natasha, she formed the perfect surprise party around a subject she, Vision, and the Maximoffs had bonded over since their return from the Battle of Sokovia: old movies and sitcoms.
Steve and Natasha immediately excelled at picking old movies for their screening party. Steve had seen classics like Casablanca and Wizard of Oz in theaters, so these picks came naturally to him. With her neverending knowledge that had inspired Signy's love of pop culture in the first place, Natasha's picks of Mary Poppins and Night of the Living Dead made perfect sense. Sam, on the other hand, was banned after he insisted on watching Citizen Kane.
Once everything was set up in the yard behind the Avengers facility on the offending date, Signy's Avengers friends huddled up by the prepared space while she went to fetch her superpowered friends.
It had been a long road to the trusting relationship she built with the Maximoffs, but, just as Natasha predicted, Steve was right about them in the end. Now, all of Signy's free time was spent with the pair and often Vision. The android was supposed to be keeping an eye on the twins, making sure they didn't see the setup, as he didn't understand the big fuss about birthdays and was subsequently put on babysitting duty.
Since their adventures in Sokovia, Signy was still hopelessly failing at rebuffing Pietro's endless flirtation and Wanda's attempts to further the extent of Signy's powers (though she had worked well as a training partner in sharpening her talents with lunar energy), but at the end of the day they had become some of her closest friends.
Pietro was stretched lazily across the couch in the living room of the Avengers facility when Signy found him. He was sprawled out widely, arms and legs draped in every direction. She had to hold back a laugh at how ridiculous he looked. "All alone, are we?" she questioned from the threshold, an amused smile gracing her features. Pietro startled, sitting himself up into a more put-together but still relaxed position. "That's unusual. You usually find someone to bother."
Pietro smirked. "I was going to look for you, but Vis said you were busy. He also said something about not going outside? He's not very discreet."
Signy rolled her eyes, but her attention was caught by the news broadcast reporting a series of sightings of HYDRA graffiti. She made her way over to the couch, resting on the arm furthest from Pietro. "And since when do you listen to orders?"
