Zemo's eyes still bore into his daughters as he clicked his tongue and nodded slowly. "I lost everyone," he murmured. "And now, I've lost my daughter to you... Imagine my surprise."

"You expected my betrayal?" Alice asked quietly.

"You are better than me, my heart," Zemo said. Alice steeled herself, but the fondness in his tone struck deep and her eyes brimmed with terms. "Always have been. I am glad that my wish for vengeance was not passed to you. It was only a matter of time until you surpassed me."

Alice looked away from him, biting her lip hard. She spent years believing that he didn't see here, when all of that time, he saw it as some sick competition. One that he was losing. So the years of loneliness and apathy suddenly felt self-inflicted. As if she could have given all of that up at any time and he would have accepted her whole-heartedly.

Zemo nodded again. "Yes. I have lost everyone. And now, so will you." A video popped up on a screen behind them. "An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again. But one which crumbles from within? That's dead."

They huddled around the screen, Signy between Tony and Steve while Bucky lingered nearby. Alice hovered just behind Signy's shoulder, the blonde reaching back and keeping a tight hold on the girl's hand. Signy looked between her friends and saw the moment that Tony's expression shifted.

"I know that road," he said quietly before yelling to Zemo, "What is this?"

Crumbles from within, Zemo's words echoed in Signy's head. What was he showing them? She jumped when a car sped into the frame, wrinkling against a tree in its path. Then, a motorcycle approached.

"Signy... look away," Bucky said, his voice low and warning.

Her voice didn't work as her eyes remained glued to the screen, her hand squeezing Alice's tight.

An older man stumbled out of the driver's seat, crawling across the dirt. A man walked around the side of the car: long, dark hair... and a metal arm.

Signy's breath caught in her throat as the water under her control, circling her body, fell to the ground when her concentration was dashed. A single word slipped from her lips, "Bucky?"

The man on the screen held up the older man by his hair, his nose already bloodied from the crash. "Sergeant Barnes?" the older man said.

Another voice crackled from the speakers. "Howard!" the woman in the passenger seat called out. Howard Stark, Signy realized. Bucky's fist slammed into the man's nose. "Howard!" the woman yelled helplessly.

The elder Stark fell to the ground limply. Bucky picked him up by his coat and carried him back to the driver's seat, laying his head against the steering wheel. Bucky calmly made his way around the car. They couldn't quite see what was happening in the old footage, but Bucky's metal arm disappeared into the vehicle and they could hear the sounds of Maria Stark gasping for air. Bucky went back around the car, faced the screen, and shot a bullet straight into the camera.
