Signy and Pietro came down the stairs to the lobby of the Avengers' Facility. They were rarely down here as the front doors were only used for visitors or the staff who filled up the first floor. Still, Signy knew the names of all at least half the staff, being those that she came into direct contact with. This included the receptionists. She approached the front desk. "Hello, Joshua," she greeted the attendant. "Someone's asking for an Avenger?"
"Right over there, Miss Odindotter," he said, pointing to the other side of the room.
"What have we talked about, Josh?"
He pressed his lips together as he said, "Call you Signy."
She winked and turned towards where Joshua had pointed to a young, brunette girl. She couldn't have been older than sixteen, though Signy would guess that most people assumed she was older. The look in her eyes matured her. It was one of realism. The look of someone who'd had her entire world collapse before her eyes. Signy recognized that look.
Signy turned to Pietro, asking, "Ready?"
"You take the lead. I'm just your hunky moral support," he said amusedly, hands shoved in his pockets.
"Hunky?" Signy repeated with an amused tilt to her lips. Pietro rolled his eyes and nodded towards the younger girl who sat in the corner. Signy steeled her features and approached. "A little birdie told me you're looking for an Avenger. I'm-"
"Signy Odindotter," the girl filled in as she stood from her chair. She still didn't move from the corner. She nodded to the boy only a few feet behind Signy. "And Pietro Maximoff. I know. I'm Alice Zemo and my father is looking to destroy your teammates."
At the end of her sentence, the girl stuck out her hand. Signy hesitantly shook it, her eyebrows furrowing as she tried to figure out the girl who stood before her. A black t-shirt and ripped jeans with a patterned blazer and chunky heels. Her messy, dark brown curls were pulled into a ponytail at the top of her head. And her handshake was firm. She wanted to be taken seriously. In fact, she probably liked that people assumed that she was older. The problem was, Signy knew what a teenager trying so hard to hold herself together looked like.
"Destroy my teammates? What makes you think that?" Signy finally asked.
"To him, you killed his family. Grief's a pretty powerful motivator, don't you think? I know what a man in crisis looks like. And my father is no longer himself. So, can you help?" Alice asked.
Signy half-smiled. "You're very straightforward."
"No sense wasting time." Alice checked the thin, silver watch on her wrist. "At this point in time, my father is likely stealing someone else's identity in order to gain access to Sergeant Barnes."
Signy glanced back at Pietro worriedly. "And his endgame is...?"
"Division. The Avengers will always be stronger together. My father is smart. He knows he cannot physically overpower your teammates. So he will manipulate them. It's his greatest talent." Her final sentence was delivered with an air of sass.
