"An everlasting oath? Really?""Yeah, that kinda surprised me, too." Amity could be heard to reply to her wife from the locker room's changing booth. "It feels like my life revolves around these things."
Luz knew what she meant, given that she was the first recipient of Amity's oath. "Yeah, but you can't say no good ever came from them. I'm oddly grateful for ours, despite how it started."
"Yeah, I definitely could have been nicer to you then."
"Ams, c'mon..."
"Also, is it weird that I still feel bad for stomping on King's cupcake that day?"
"Yes, it absolutely is." Luz didn't hesitate to point out. "One: it was years ago. Two: he ate it off the floor almost immediately afterwards. Trust me, you're the only one who still cares at this point. And who in their right mind would harbor a grudge for so long over something so trivial, anyway?"
Amity sighed. "Yeah, you're right. I guess I'm just a bundle of nerves right now."
"Who can blame you?" Luz started to pet Stringbean, who seemed to emerge from her hair. "No shame in being scared of going up against Viney."
"Scared?" Amity's voice perked up. "I've never been so excited! I haven't been up against an opponent this tough since Boscha! Even better is the fact that it's not Boscha!"
"I know what you mean. Before Boscha became champion, I never knew there could be such a thing as a sore winner."
"Now that's something I don't miss." Amity stepped out of the changing booth. Luz could only gawk at her new outfit with its spiked pauldrons, selkiedomus-scale gauntlets, sharply accented dress and dynamic new shades. Stringbean flew circles around Amity for a better look.
"Well, Luz, what do you think?"
Her question was only met with excited little squeaks from her human.
"The pauldrons are totally doing it for you, huh?"
Luz fiercely nodded her head before assuming a calmer but just as affectionate posture. "Looks like we got us a 'Mega Mittens' in our presence." Stringbean purred in agreement, then makes a few mews to Luz. "She sure is, Beans."
"Lemme guess, "She's so beautiful."" Amity jokingly rolled her eyes. "Is that really all you two can come up with?"
"Serves you right for being so beautiful."
Amity could only chuckle at her wife's retort, but her smile dulled as she looked to her. "So, real talk here, you think I can win this?"
"You totally can, and that's not just wife talk." Luz assured her. "Those glyphs she has are a bit of a wrinkle, though. I don't know if even your toughest abominations can stand up to a sniping shrimp blast."
