The Owl House

2020:

"My first word was 'HOOT'. My second word was 'HOOT-HOOT'. My third word was--"

"Hooty! You gotta stay on track here, buddy!"

The banter of Augustus and Hooty was naught but white noise to the ears of Amity Blight. After her journey with Luz into Willow's  mind, Amity could feel that a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders, or that a horrible curse had been broken. She found the courage to reveal the secret she harbored for years. The secret that almost took a heavy toll on her...

Friend?

Could she really call Willow that again someday? Could she find it in herself to stand up to her parents? To get them to accept Willow, or at the very least, leave her alone? She took out her invitation -A bloodyfly with the words "Skara 15" emblazoned on its wings- and released it into the sky. The bug's newfound freedom was emblematic of her own. For the first time in as long as she could remember, the future looked bright. Not really that much brighter, but like Willow said, it's a start. And she wouldn't have this much optimism if it weren't for... Luz.💘

Thinking of her made Amity feel strange these days. Her stomach felt twisted and her blood would race when the human would so much as approach her. Was she being affected by some unknown magic? Did the Owl Lady cast some elaborate protection spell on Luz that caused these feelings? Maybe she was overthinking it. Maybe it was time to go home and distill all this new information.

"Here's a song I wrote: Bored, bored, bored! Bored, bored bored!"

"AAAGH! I can't take this anymore!"

"Here a-hoot, there a-hoot, somewhere else a-hoot-hoot! HOOTY-HOOT-HOOT!"

Yeah, it was definitely time to go.

"Dang it Hooty! Can't you go a day without traumatizing children?!" The Owl Lady stormed outside, sounding more agitated than she did earlier in the afternoon. The young Blight had no Titanly desire to hear whatever loud and likely profane words the old witch had for the bird tube. And so, she left the property for--

"HEY, YOU!!"

Amity stopped in her tracks to see Eda stomping towards her. "Hold it right there, uuhhhh..." The old witch's eyes scanned Amity over until they seemed to settle on her feet. "...'Boots'! What kind of game are you playing here?"

"Game?" The younger witch was naturally confused.

"You heard me!" Eda snapped back. "You set that plant girl's brain on fire, but then when you and Luz put it back together, she's acting all nice to you. Did you mess around with her memories when you were meandering in her mindscape?!"

Amity resisted the urge to be defensive with her. "Did Luz not explain the situation?"

"Nah, she and Willow are too busy consoling Goops right now. So how about you explain the situation?"

"It's... kind of a long story."

"I have a couple hours to kill until the teen drama in my house dies down, so dish already."

And so, Amity recounted the events of her journey with Luz, feigning indifference when talking about the human. Then she told of why she was at odds with Willow in the first place. The ultimatum her parents gave her, having to end her friendship with Willow, keeping her away for her safety; she told Eda all she could of their history. Then she told her about their encounter with the Inner Willow, and how they've begun to reconcile their differences. While Amity wasn't exactly expecting sympathy, she was hoping for more than a derisive laugh topped off with a snort.
