I love you.

Amber took a deep breath in before locking her bedroom door.

She didn't even glance Tara's way as she immediately went to her vanity.

She began slowly checking the drawers for the inhaler.

"Pretty sure it's in here," Amber stated.

She could hear Tara hobble her way to Amber's bed.
The springs quietly bounced as Tara sat down.

Amber slyly pulled her phone out to find a text from Richie.

Richie: Gonna get Mindy in the basement and take care of her.

Amber quickly sent a 👍🏻 back before continuing to ruffle through the vanity drawers.

"Amber," Tara weakly called out.

"Here is it! Wouldn't want to keep Sam waiting," Amber scoffed.

"Amber. Come here," Tara softly commanded.

Amber finally turned around to face Tara.
She hadn't really, truly looked at her girlfriend since she had arrived.

Tara was in bad shape.
Her hair was messily pulled together in a ponytail.
The color was almost vacant in her sweet little face.
Dark circles under those chocolate brown eyes that seemed lifeless behind them.
Her broken leg in a boot; sliced hand wrapped in bandages.

And it was all Amber's fault.
Not Richie's.
Not Sam's, directly at least.

The realization hit Amber like a ton of bricks.
And it immediately made her eyes fill with tears.

Tara frowned, "Come here, why are you upset?"

Amber cautiously approached her broken girlfriend.
Gently sitting beside her, Amber just let the tears stream down her cheeks.

"Because...look at you. God, I'm so sorry...," Amber cried.

Tara reached for Amber's hands; urging her to come closer.

"It's not your fault, baby. I'm...I'm going to be okay. I'm getting away from whoever is doing this bullshit," Tara soothed.

That triggered the guilt to become anger in Amber.

"And you weren't going to tell me. What the hell was I supposed to think," Amber snapped.

Tara sighed, "I was going to tell you when we got out of town. Sam wouldn't let me..."

"Because she doesn't trust me."

"She doesn't trust anyone right now."

"What about you? Do you trust me?"

Tara was taken back by Amber's question.

"What? Of course I trust you, baby. I'm sorry...I'm just really messed up right now and I'm scared..."

Amber sighed and shushed Tara before she could finish her explanation.

"Stop. You're right. I'm sorry...I've just been worried about you and I really fucking miss you," Amber said as she leaned her forehead against Tara's.
