Give peace a chance

[-]

"You have no idea how worried I was when you didn't return home," Nancy sighed as she gave Alice some tea at the table. "I tried calling you, but you didn't answer - that's when the panic set in."

It had been a couple of days after that fateful night and Alice had no problem recovering from it. After spending almost a week at home, she felt great again as if nothing even happened. Not to mention, she hadn't spoken to Tyler ever since.

"I know, but you won't have to worry about that ever again," Alice took her aunt's hand when she sat down next to her. "In the end, nothing bad happened, so don't stress yourself over it."

Nancy nodded in agreement before she lifted her head and smirked. "So, what's going on between you and Tyler?"

Alice's eyes went wide as little plates. "What-what are you talking about?"

"Oh, come on, don't pretend to be oblivious," Nancy brushed it off. "You two have something going on!"

"Listen," Alice tried to keep herself calm. "Tyler and I have nothing going on. We've known each other only for a week and we're being nice to each other because...because we're friends!"

"Who are you trying to convince - me or yourself?" Nancy laughed out loud at her own joke.

Alice scoffed at her ridiculousness and stood up from her chair. "Okay, you know what? Scratch the tea, I'm gonna go and get some coffee."

Nancy followed Alice with her eyes as she got dressed up and put on her shoes. "The question is who are you going to be drinking the coffee with?"

The girl saw her aunt's proud pose and rolled her eyes. "Yeah, that's enough for me." And took her bag from the coat rag before walking out of the apartment and into the town. After a couple of minutes of walking, she finally reached weathervane cafe.

She stopped at the window to see if Tyler was working and when she saw him, she could feel her heart light up with joy. As she stepped in, the bell above her rang and Tyler's attention was drawn to the sound.

But when he raised his head and saw Alice's warm smile he missed so much, he knew he couldn't be any happier. "Alice, hey."

"Hi," The girl walked up to the counter. "Sorry for not coming to talk to you sooner, I was staying at home..."

"No worries, you probably needed to rest anyways..." He replied and the two shared deep looks. "So, uh, the usual?"

"Yeah, thanks." Alice replied before going to one of the tables to sit down but it didn't take long for Tyler to bring her coffee and sit down next to her.

"So, how you been doing?"

"Better," The girl heavily sighed and held the warm coffee in her hands. "But I didn't get the chance to thank you for that night."

"It's okay, that was the least I could do," Tyler easily brushed it off, but it was obvious something was bugging him. "But, um, do you remember the entire night?"

Alice furrowed her eyebrows at his question. "What do you mean? Did something happen that I don't know of?"

"No, it's, uh, it's nothing important," Tyler chuckled nervously, avoiding eye contact with her. "Anyways, I was thinking of inviting you on a date perhaps? If you're free of course."

To say that Alice didn't expect that would be an understatement, she was taken aback by such a suggestion and struggled to reply. "Oh, uh, I would love to, but I have this event today with my aunt. It's to celebrate her birthday and we're going on a train to another town."
