Andrea

Adam bounced  his knees up and down in nervousness as we wait for our name to be called.

" What's taking them so long?" Adam said in an irritated voice. We have been waiting here for the last 20 minutes and the nurse told us that the doctor isn't here yet.

" Just relax Adam. He might have a last minute emergency." I tried soothing him.

He huffed in annoyance. I rubbed my five month pregnant belly as I looked around the hospital hallway. There were few pregnant women sat on the chair for the monthly checkup.

" Mrs. Knight." A voice called my name breaking my chain of thoughts. Adam helped me in getting up and we together walked inside the doctor's cabin.

" I am so sorry for keeping you wait. I had a last minute emergency. " Dr. Bane apologized for being late. She is a lady in her mid forties and one of the well known gynecologist.

She asked me about my current condition whether I have nausea, back pain.. blah blah blah just like she asks everytime.

" Can you lift up your shirt, Mrs. Knight?" She instructed me as I lay down on the bed to have my ultrasound taken.

" It's gonna be a little cold." She applied the gel on my abdomen while Adam stood beside the hospital bed holding my hand.

" There is your baby." She pointed to the screen where we could see our baby. My heart beats rapidly. Our baby.

The doctor smiles at me and types something on her computer. I looked at Adam and noticed that he was gazing at the screen intently.

" Everything is fine, Mrs Knight. The heartbeat seems normal. Don't stress yourself and take adequate rest and no intense activity." She suggested as she handed me the ultrasound.

" Are you sure you don't want to know the gender of your baby? " She asked.

Since I am in my fifth month of pregnancy we can find the gender of the baby but we decided not to. We wanted it to be a surprise. Eventhough my family wanted to throw a baby shower, they decided to respect our decision.

" No, doctor what we want is for our baby to be healthy." Adam clarified.

We bid our goodbye to the  doctor and exited the hospital building.

The car ride to our home was silence. It was not an awkward but more of a comfort silence. Adam's one hand was resting on my protruding belly and with his other hand he manages to drive the car.

I looked out of the car window and reminisced about the past couples of months. Since the day I announced my pregnancy to Adam, there isn't a single day that I have felt sorrowful.

He made sure that I am being taken care of, tolerating all my tantrums, not to mention, waking up at 2 am to buy me ice creams. He is a great husband and surely he will be a great dad one day.

" Did you think of any baby names?" I asked and gazed Adam whose eyes focused on the road.

" Mmm. Arianna, Daphne, Sophia." I looked at him bewildered.

" You only selected girls names." I pointed out.

" Yes, because this one is gonna be a girl. Daddy's princess." He said and smiled at me sweetly.

" How sure are you?"

" Call it's dad's intuition. It's gonna be a girl. Everybody thinks it's a girl." He commented.

That's true. Everybody including my family and his are saying that the baby is gonna be a girl. My dad even bought cute little outfits for the baby. Then there is me, call it mother's intuition, I think it's a baby boy.
