Scarlett's POV
She was so clearly out of it, sitting there in deep thought. I have no clue what I can do to help her, except for letting her deal with all of it on her own and having her ask for help herself. I imagine that it must be even harder than it is for me. I wave trying to get her attention, when this fails I close her laptop. This pulls her out of her zoned-out state. I ask her if she is okay, but before I let her answer I quickly say that she needs to clear out her stuff that is on the table. Great job Scarlett, you wouldn't even let her answer. She looks at me and without hesitation she gets up and clears the table of her stuff.
"I'll be in my room." She mutters, before walking up the stairs to her room.
What was all that about? Something is clearly affecting her, but I decide to leave it for now. I walk to the kitchen and start on dinner. Tonight it will be only the two of us since Colin will be at work and the kids will be with my mom. I hope me and Y/N can bond a little tonight, the past few days have been way too chaotic and busy for that. I spent the next hour cooking, deep in thought about this situation. Before I know it I hear a blaring smoke alarm and a frantic Y/N trying to keep the room from fully filling with smoke.
"Oh, shit," I exclaim. Opening the windows that we have in the kitchen and the oven that now has a very burned dinner in it. I guess I forgot to set a timer.
"Scarlett, what happened?" she asks me. "That was the only thing we had for dinner wasn't it?" I nod. Being met with a very disappointed look from her. "Damn that smelled so good and I am so hungry. Why oh why do you do this to me you cruel world." She theatrically exclaims.
"I'm sorry darling, we'll have to order something." I see her eyes light up at the suggestion as if all the pain she felt by her dinner being ruined melted away. "Do you have to be so dramatic all the time?" I laugh.
"Hey, like mother, like daughter." She points out.
"I'm not dramatic," I say and she gives me a crooked look. "You're an actor, Scarlett. It is your job to be dramatic."
We order some sushi and once it arrives we sit on the couch to eat it.
Y/N's POV
"Darling be careful with the soy sauce and my very expensive couch," she says as I almost drop a piece loaded with the very coloured sauce.
"Don't worry, I wasn't going to. I'm not a little kid." I state annoyed. "no but you can act like one."
We happily enjoy our dinner while the TV plays in the background.
"Y/N, why did you choose to study chemistry." I look up at her, confused by the sudden question. "Uhm, well I like it. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do though. I always thought I was going to be an actress when I grew up." I simply state.
"An actress, why didn't you choose to do that."
"Okay, so you see I have done musical theatre for about ten years. Yep, you are sitting next to a certified theatre kid here." the comment earns me a giggle out her. "and the place I did it at has these different kinds of levels. For me, the only reason to go into acting would be if got a spot in the highest level, since I only felt like I would be good enough to do it then. I only got a spot in that group halfway through my last year there. So by that time I had already given up on trying to get into drama school. I figured out I liked chemistry during the lockdown and well now we are here." I simply tell her.
"So you were too scared and chose an alternative that you liked."
"Yeah, I guess I was too scared to do it. It has been on my mind lately, not really musical theatre but mostly film acting. But I don't want to quit what I am doing now, because it is something I love as well." How does she do that, is that some weird mom sense, to always know what is wrong or what you're thinking? I wasn't necessarily scared but I have always had some confidence issues.
"Well, why don't you try it? You know you have connections in the business now."
"And be one of those nepo babies, I don't want that. Before we met I always had the plan to finish school first and then try to make my break in the industry. Honestly, since I have come here the desire has grown, the want to try it. I am just scared that once people find out we are related that all the work that I will have put in it will have been for nothing. All people will see then is Scarlett Johansson's daughter that started acting just like her mom."
"But nobody even knows we are related." She opposes.
"I know that but still. in the end that is all people will see when we do eventually reveal this. Because, let's be real, if I do make it in this world of acting it will at one point become impossible to keep this hidden. Scarlett you know that would mean we could not go out anywhere together. You of all people should know how public your life gets once you have your big break." I say, slightly annoyed now. she gives me one of those looks that looks like they say everything but they actually don't "Don't give me that look." I look at her even more annoyed than I already was, ready to move on to the next conversation topic or to end this conversation.
"I'm sorry Y/N, all I am saying is that if you want to you can and if you want I have connections that could make it easier. Would it be so bad to be connected to me?"
"No it wouldn't, but in case I do decide to make a career out of acting, then I don't want the fact that we are related to disregard all the hard work I put in."
I am now so done with this conversation that I get up and excuse myself to the bathroom. My god, this turned into a shitshow. She showed some interest and she actually tried to be nice and helpful by suggesting the connections. And all I did was blow up at her about how I don't want to become a nepotism baby. I have seen the attitude that a lot of people have towards the so-called nepotism babies, and yes a lot of them only made it because of their family but there are a lot of good ones. I walk out of the bathroom, not wanting to worry Scarlett.
"I'm sorry for blowing up just now. I would love to give it a chance but have never had the confidence or even any idea where to start. But I think I might be ready to take the jump even though it is scary." I say shyly. She opens up her arms and I just melt into the hug she gives me. She gives me a kiss on my head. "It is totally okay. It is scary and if you need me or want my help I'm always here. Not just for this." She reassures.
We spent the rest of the night chatting aboutother stuff that is going on right now before we both go to bed.
