A new life

Y/N's POV

It has been two weeks since I've been back in New York. And I must say I love the slow dynamic that we've had going on. I've been spending a lot of my time not doing a lot. Really taking the free time I have before I go back to school, especially since I spent the whole summer working. You could say this is my summer vacation.

Flo and I call once a week since she was busy because we still want to properly talk besides the daily texting. On the days that Scarlett and Colin were both busy with work, I was looking after my siblings. So I was taking care of Cosmo during the day and making sure that Rose got to school on time and was picked up at the end of the day. It took a lot of worry from my parents knowing that they were leaving the kids in good hands.

It was a Saturday and both Scarlett and Colin had to unexpectedly work. It was more normal for Colin to work during the weekend especially since SNL aired on Saturdays. Scarlett had been called in for an emergency thing at the Outset, which left me in charge of my younger brother and sister.

"So little bean what do you want to do today?" I ask her, not knowing what to do. It was a beautiful fall day in New York so I want to go outside with them at some point during the day, even if it is just for a small walk in the park.

"Can we go to the zoo, I haven't been in so long." She says.

"That sounds like a great plan. Go get ready we'll leave in a little bit." I tell her and get a happy smile back before she skips off to go brush her teeth and put on some proper clothes. I finish cleaning up the last of the dishes and take Cosmo to also put some better clothes on him. Making sure he'll be warm enough. It is beginning to get a little chilly out these days and I don't need him to catch a cold.

After gathering everything I need for the day I get both the kids situated in their seats in the car. Rose excitedly swings her legs as she sings along to the music playing on the car radio. We had left quite quickly as it was already late morning. Both kids had woken up late and Scarlett and Colin had left before they woke up.

I get the stroller out of the car and pull the backpack straps over my shoulders. Cosmo is walking but I know he'll get tired after an hour and I don't look forward to having to carry him for the rest of the afternoon. And I want to enjoy this just as much I know they will, It has been a while since I've been to a zoo myself and I'm looking forward to today.

"Rose hold up for a second. I know you're excited but I don't want to lose you. You keep close to me and don't run off without telling me, there will be a lot of people here and I don't want to lose you in the crowd. Can you promise me that you'll keep close?" I tell her sternly. I need her to understand that I don't need to lose her. It is a big, public crowd and I know that people will recognise me.

I had prepped to keep it to a minimum with some sunglasses and a hat, but when people figure it out there is no stopping it.

"Yes Y/N, I'll stay close and not just run off." She says as she stops just before the ticket line. I quickly finish putting Cosmo in the stroller. He can walk around once we are in the park but for now, he'll be in there.

Okay, we can do this. I've been feeling a little overwhelmed. This is the first time I've done a day trip with my siblings where I am the one who is in full responsibility of them. There is so much more you need to think about than just taking them down to the park that is close to the house. But I have it all under control, Rose knows the most important thing and that is to stay close.

"Okay, Rose before we go in I'm going to give you something. It's my business card, you keep it on your person at all times, but if you do get lost, which shouldn't happen if you stay close, you can hand it to one of the employees so they can contact me with where you are." I say showing her the card and putting it in the pocket of her jacket. I thought about how my parents would always have their contact information on me and my brother, they got us dog tags with their information. They might not have been the best parents but at least they never wanted to lose me.
