Chapter 11: Dishes

What was the one job you'd never want to be stuck with whilst camping? Cleaning dishes. Sonic had fallen victim to this. He had started a 'food fight', he had really just dropped his plate on a seated Amy whilst walking away and Amy threw her plate at him (He was more than sure there were still plate peices in his quills), and was punished with the not-so-sacred duty of dish-cleaning.

The treaturous hike back up the mountain whilst holding dishes, forks, spoons and knives was more than enough of a punishment. Scrubbing the dishes was uncalled for. However, Shadow had offered to help - whether that was a good thing or bad thing was yet to be determined - and was carrying a few things himself.

"You don't have to help Shads." Sonic muttered skittishly, he didn't want another plate launched at his head. "And let you drop plates and shatter more things?" The ebony hedgehog scoffed "I don't wanna buy new ones." Sonic rolled his eyes. "Amy would just berate me and force me to buy new ones." Shadow nodded. "What is Rose's problem anyway?" Sonic shrugged

"Think she's finally accepted I don't like her?" Sonic joked. This caught Shadow off guard however, causing him to drop a few items to which he used his chaos control and reflexes to catch. "Close call." Sonic laughed, seemingly ignoring his previous actions.

The two made their way to the cabin Sally had gave them incase of a storm - and to wash dishes. It was nicely decorated with an industrial style - the sink making itself very noticeable to Sonic, which was not welcomed in the slightest - and was rather large.

Sonic clumsily threw the dishes at the side of the sink, turning the tap on and getting the soap and sponge. ( Not explaining how he washes the dishes because it'll be a milk before the cereal situation PS. milk ALWAYS goes after cereal >:[ ) Shadow took the liberty of wiping the washed dishes down with a cloth before putting them on the drying rack whilst Sonic scrubbed at porridge stains.

"What did you put in that porridge? It was good and all but it's as sticky as that glue Tails made!" Sonic said in frustration. "I used quite a lot of syrup so it would scould Rouge." Shadow replied, his tone as serious as ever. Sonic groaned. Why did good things always have to have consequences right after?

"Speaking of which, I do not believe she will be able to get it off of her suit." He added, making Sonic laugh a little. "She'll get you back, probably stick cornstarch in your quills or something." Shadow nodded "I'm always weary, like you are now." Sonic cocked his ruby-eyed counterpart an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" "Well you're constantly looking over when I make sudden movements, standing as far away as possible and refusing to wash the knives." Shadow pointed out. Sonic shook his head.

"If I am being weary, it's out of habit." He concluded, taking a pile of knives and pushing them away so he could wash the one spoon beneath them. Shadow nodded sarcastically, returning to drying a bowl.

"What are you doing after this?" Sonic asked, trying not to give the impression of being too scared or too friendly - he knew he'd get a punch either way. "Probably going to hide from Rouge for a bit." Shadow muttered, clearly trying not to remind himself he was talking to a certain blue hedgehog. "That'll be simple then. She won't be able to get anywhere in those boots of hers." Shadow shook his head "You'd be suprised at what she has done in those boots." Sonic nodded, remembering the kick he had recieved upon 'badmouthing' Shadow after a rather intense fight - he had just said he hated Shadow (he didnt mean it really, he was just tired and annoyed).

The two were interrupted as an anxious Cream walked in. The two turned to her, Sonic wiping his arms, which were decorated in soap and bubbles, on the towel Shadow had used to dry the washing. "Rouge is angry... very angry..." she muttered. "Why?" Shadow asked - probably already knowing why. "Her boot fell into the lake." Both hedgehogs were dumbfounded. "She keeps shouting so could I please help you two clean up?" Sonic nodded as he knew Cream didn't like loud noises or shouting at all. "With how sticky this porridge is, we'd need the entirety of gun." Sonic joked, earning a swift elbow to the rib.
