Chapter 5: The Secret Of The Chao

It was officially 5pm. The blue blur sped over to Amy's as fast as he could, ignoring the law aimed at him. It would certainly bite him in the back later but an angry, obsessive hedgehog and an overly worried fox was a lot worse to deal with - especially when you live with one of them.

Sonic knocked on the door, subconsciously beginning playing with his glove, a habit he had picked up whenever he spoke to Amy. Amy opened the door, her signature smile plastered on her muzzle. "Just on time! As usual!" She smiled, letting the lapiz hedgehog in. "Knuckles is already in the dining room." "Knuckles? On time?" Sonic snickered. The echidna had a horrible time upkeep and it was common knowledge he was always late. "He arrived early." Amy chuckled "That's a first."

Sonic walked into the dining area, it was actually just a few centimetres away from the kitchen, an island counter separating them, and waved at the echidna. "Never thought I'd see the day." Sonic laughed as he sat next to the echidna. "I thought I was late." Knuckles sighed. "We really need to get you a clock." Sonic stated. Knuckles lifted his left arm, revealing a watch.

The watch had roman numerals and was lime green in colour with an orange band, they matched his shoes perfectly. It was cracked however, presumably from a fight or just due to Knuckles' 'punch now, think later.' attitude.

"Time on Angel Island works differently." He muttered "How so?" Sonic asked "70 seconds is a minute and we have a 19 hour day. Hence why Echidnas don't sleep much." Knuckles explained "Well then, maybe we could measure in your time for you, I understand that you prefer to keep your late tribe's traditions." Tails smiled as he walked into the room "I could even make a watch for each of us so we can use Knuckles' time."

Conversation ensued for awhile until everyone was there. Cream was also there for some reason. She had raced down the stairs with Cheese upon smelling food.

"Oooo what are we having?" She smiled as she took her respective seat. "Why is Cream here?" Tails asked "I'm babysitting her." Amy explained. "But she's fourteen." Knuckles butted in. "At fourteen you could get your own house on Angel Island." "Vanilla will be away for a week, remember?" Amy reminded."I survive without Sonic all the time." "I'm surprised you survive with Sonic." Knuckles remarked, earning a light punch from Sonic "I prefer company." Cream piped up. "Understandable." Tails nodded "You can come to my house whenever aswell you know." "I don't like disturbing your work."

Sonic tried to hold in his laughter, failing miserably. Everyone's attention landed on him. "Sorry- Sorry-" He chuckled as he finally calmed down, wiping a tear from his eye "It's just... we all try to keep him away from his 'work' and try make him be a kid." "Oh, in that case I'll visit often." Cream smiled at Tails, who was glaring at Sonic.

"Now, let's eat shall we?" Amy smiled as she brought in some food, which was demolished within a few minutes.

"Now, I would like to address the reason you are all here." Amy smiled "Rouge and I have been talking.... and we have booked a camping trip!" She jumped in excitement. "Miles! We could look at bugs and write down our findings!" Cream suggested Tails awkwardly nodded, not wanting to admit he had a fear of bugs.

"Is Shadow going too?" Knuckles asked. He hated Shadow more than anything, probably more than Shadow hated Sonic. "Yes." Amy sighed "I want neither you or Sonic fighting him." Sonic cleared his throat, earning Amy's attention. "When are we going?" "This weekend so Tails and Cream don't miss school." "There's a problem with this. Shadow's ran off." Sonic smirked.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, blue, but I found him." Rouge smirked, her hand wresting on the back of Shadow's neck. Shadow scoffed, immediately trying to walk out only to be stopped by Rouge. "You're staying. You know better than to abruptly leave. Apologise to Sonic." She said sternly, telling Shadkw there was no way out. Shadow sighed, trudging iver to Sonic, his signature scowl making itself known.

"I apologise for leaving abruptly." He stated "No harm done. Not like you were missed. I'll see you Monday - or whenever you decide to attack again." Sonic joked. "I'm going home. See ya."

Shadow released a breath he didn't even know he was holding in upon Sonic exiting. Rouge just smirked at Shadow's off behavior. "Got anything worth Sharing, Shadow?" Shadow shook his head and began walking to the exit, only to be stopped by Rouge. "Sonic said something was given to you and him by a certain creature." "So?" "Was it perhaps, a flowercrown?" The room fell into an icy silence.

"I've read about such instances." Cream spoke up "Two Möbians, fated to one another, sat in a chao garden. Each were presented a flowercrown of the other's fur colour. Upon accepting the crowns, they had promised the Chao they will remain together for all of eternity." She smiled. "Well, Shadow did you accept it?" Amy asked, seemingly adgitated.

"He didn't understand it... he- he took it and put it on my head..." Shadow muttered. Rouge gasped. "Shadow... why didn't you-" "I tried!" Shadow shouted. Rouge inhaled, pinching the bridge of her nose "We will work this out. Take this camping trip and attempt to befriend Sonic." Tails suggested "We could go out of our way to keep you two together!" Amy smiled, seemingly over the fact her crush is fated to someone who has attempted to kill him and anyone in his paths multiple times.

Shadow groaned, walking out despite Rouge's protests. This was going to be a terrible weekend.
