Shadow watched Geode carefully as the trio walked. People would steal a pet chao if they had the chance - their trust had to be earned in order for them to be pets, which made them hard to get - and Shadow wasn't having any of it. Sonic also kept an eye on Geode but not to the extent of Shadow.

"Why don't you tell me more about that person?" Sonic suddenly asked, interrupted the silence Shadow had grown comfortable in. Shadow hesitantly shrugged and kept his eyes on the distracted chao. "I guess I just see them as annoying." He grumbled, knowing of he went into more detail or refused to talk Sonic would pry and grow suspicious. He didn't need a matchmaker to mess up his life.

Sonic huffed "You find everyone annoying." He groaned. "Exactly." The ebony male replied, his tone smug and demeaning. "So you see them as ordinary?" Sonic asked. Shadow sighed, hand pinching the bridge of his nose as he looked down, ruby eyes finally being pried away from Geode.

"No, I find them annoying. More annoying than you could possibly fathom." He growled lowly, his hostile tone breaking through the relaxed atmosphere and sending shivers down Sonic's spine. The lapiz hedgehog straightened up and began to slightly distance himself from Shadow in fear of his lashing out.

Shadow calmed as fast as a flash flood after  a few inhales. "Sorry." He hesitantly said. Sonic shook his head "It's alright Shads..." Sonic nervously smiled.

The lapiz hedgehog feared Shadow's temper almost as much as he feared water. Like a storm at sea, Shadow could turn in an instant and become fatal. The only difference being Shadow would stalk his victim like a predator and wouldn't rest until he had calmed - which was rarely the case - or taken care of who had adgitated him.

"I shouldn't be prying." Sonic shrugged. Shadow nodded in agreement. "I didn't agree to come for you to play matchmaker with everyone I know." He said bitterly, Sonic's guard raising once again. "That's Amy's thing." The lapiz hedgehog quickly defended himself, throwing Amy under the bus whilst doing so. "I gathered, hedgehog. Though I rarely stay around your 'gang' I do take note of everyone."

Sonic nodded in understandment. "Why do you even hang out with us if you work for egghead?" He asked before silence ensued.

Ruby eyes looked away for a few moments as his face twisted in thought. Why did he work for the rounded man? He didn't gain much aside from throwing the fox child or recieving a whack to the face from Amy's piko piko hammer. It wasn't like it was his job - he just killed his landlord and bought the estate upon growing tired of paying rent. There wasn't much of an answer, it just allowed him to fight Sonic.

Shadow shrugged "I just do what I think is right." He concluded, quickening his pace. Shadpw's efforts were in vein however - outrunning the blue blur was like trying to compromise with Rouge, it just wasn't possible. Sonic quickly caught up with Geode in hand and a rather annoyed face.

"Do you really think hurting people is right?" He asked, glaring emerald eyes pouring into Shadow's soul. "Do you think it's right to destroy homes?" Sonic's voice rose with each sentence. He was practically shouting. "DO YOU THINK ENSLAVING THE WORLD IS RIGHT?!" Sonic yelled, earning the attention of passers-by.

Shadow shook his head, looked down. "Look at me." Sonic snarled. Shadow refused and kept his head low. "Why do you work with him?" Sonic growled, grabbing Shadow's wrist to stop him from walking any further.

Shadow tried his best to free himself from the other's grasp, failing as he was dragged closer. "WHY?!" Sonic repeated, louder this time. Shadow shook his head in refusal, catching a glimpse of emerald teary eyes.

"I've tried my hardest Shadow." He said shakily, voice now just above a whisper. "I've tried to be your friend -I've tried to show you what's right. I usually ask Rouge to invite you... and you still work with him. You still cause suffering." Shadow's face shrivelled in hurt as he listened, each word acting as a knife as it wounded his skin, seeping in underneath to the fragility of his organs.

"He's all I have left, Sonic." Shadow whispered. "I don't have her, I don't have him. I don't have the ARK..." Shadow began to ramble as he felt himself get lost further and further in his own head.

"Shadow... you have to move on. We're getting older - I won't be around in 50 years." "She isn't either." Shadow cut in. Sonic shook his head and sighed. "Shadow, we can't promise we can stay with you - you know that - but we can promise to make our time together matter." Sonic smiled reassuringly.

Shadow looked down in thought. "You can't replace her no matter how much you try." Sonic added "You've just gotta move on and look ahead." Shadow nodded reluctantly, stroking a scared Geode with his free hand. "I'll try my best." He whispered back, jumping as he was engulfed into a hug by the other, Geode squeaking in anger as Shadow's attention was shifted from them to Sonic.

Shadow quickly broke away however, a slight crimson blush dusting at his cheeks. "We should get back to the others." He hurriedly stated, walking passed Sonic. "They'll be worried." Sonic just shrugged it off - he knew Shadow wasn't one for hugs - and followed. "Especially you know who." The lapiz hedgehog sighed, referring to the pink hedgehog both of the males would happily leave in a ditch.
