For the third time my alarm set off I knew I was late for my first class: Comparative Literature. It was my first week in this new university and I was already running late. I've transferred from Canada and now I live in Los Angeles, it's a pretty big change but I really needed it.

"Alaska!" Tay screamed from the living room of our little flat "Don't make me break into your room, we cannot be late!"

"Jesus, Taylor" I opened my door with sleepy face "Give me five minutes"

We live pretty near the campus and have a car so I really don't know why the hell Tay is so worked up. I still can't get use to this hot weather even at night when local people told me it's chilly: it is not. I choose a blue skinny jeans with a white thank top, my light brown hair was in its usually messy spirit and me not having enough time to tame it just had to leave the damn thing quiet.

"Tay, where're my flip flops?" I look at my tall skinny blonde best friend who was pretty impatient by the door wearing her floral dress with nice golden sandals

"Are you really going to our first day in university in LOS ANGELES with flip flops?" Se pretty much yelled 'Los Angeles' as the greatest place in Earth

"It's hella hot! There's no effing way I'm using heels or sneakers" I'm not very fond of cursing, I can't see its use in English Language. I cross the living room as I found my pair of yellow flip flops.

I'm the type of girl that choose comfort over beauty. Why would I wear something I don't want or use something that I don't feel comfortable in so some guy thinks I'm cute?

"You embarrass me" Tay said in our way to the car, I can't drive so she's always driving. Not that I don't know how to, I'm just not good at it. "You are so pretty, you must know that." She sits on the driver seat as I feast my seat belt and roll my eyes, once again this lecture "Why don't you put a little more effort on your looks? Lose these teenager t-shirts and start valuing your body? You could always come back to what it used to be."

"Because I would be telling guys that I like to be an object, a prize to win" I rolled my eyes, we always have this talk. "If they don't like me this way I am too bad for them 'cause I'm not changing to please someone"

"But Alaska"

"End of discussion" I sound severe. This is a very important argument for me, which is directly connected with why we left Canada "Just drive, we're running late"

We were in a annoying silence all the way to University. I didn't like us to be like this but she wouldn't stop with that talk and I can't take any more from it. After five minutes we arrived at UCLA campus. Taylor was an Architecture Major and I was a Journalism Major, we were at the middle of our course with 2 more years left to graduate. She parked the car at the library and we try to locate ourselves.

"I think this is your building" She points with the map on her hand "Next to the library" I looked at the map and then to the library in front of us.

A lot of students were walking past us, it was the beginning of the semester and I felt like a fish out of water.

"Maybe we should ask someone, Tay" I say, feeling quite confused

"Oh hell no! They'll think we're stupid!" Her voice was pitchy "Cmon Alaska, we are two smart girls, we can figure this map out"

"You girls seem lost, may I help?" I could hear the Australian accent in his voice, we turned around to see this very handsome boy with blonde curly hair standing right in front of us

"Hey there" Tay said with her flirty tone, damn Taylor keep it in your pants "We're a bit lost, we just transferred here."

"Oh, thats exciting!" He smiled and wow what a smile "I'm Ashton, where are you two tying to get to?"
