But I knew Him

The ride to the base had been in grim silence. Mission was failed. The blood from my wound was seeping out through spaces between my fingers. The HYDRA men showed no heed. The Soldier sat in silence as if in deep thoughts. They were surely rough as he kept pressing my wound harder and harder till his metal fingers would leave imprints on my upper back but I didn't object it. A few minutes later, the van stopped as I was taken away by two guards who dragged me. The blood loss made me dizzy. They carried me to the underground medical lab where I saw the hellish chair in front of me. The same chair that would usually wipe the Soldier's mind. I tried to look behind and found him being held by four guards headed in the same way. He kept the same expression except I saw a glint of fear in his blue eyes. He knew what was gonna happen. I was dropped in front of the medical table and carefully sat on it facing the wall while the Soldier sat on the metal chair. He could see me facing him backwards. A guard came up and tore away my shirt from the back as he lingered his touch on my lower back for more than a second. I could feel the prying eyes of the evil men on me. The tears in my eyes then fell free as I sniffled. I could hear a few men chuckle but all I was allowed to do was shut my eyes tightly.

-BUCKY POV-

How dare that man touch her like that. I swear heard a few sniffles from her. She was exposed to do those men. When I heard the chuckles, I wanted to break their arms. I tried to use force to get there and cover her but the doctor who was looking at my arm signaled a guard to hold me in place. Poor Natsya. Her bullet wound looked even worse with blood oozing out at more four small points near it, exactly where I held her. Did I do this to her? Why didn't she tell me if I was hurting her then? WHY? She didn't deserve this. My Natsya. She trusted me with her safety. I had to get her out. I needed help. Maybe the man on the bridge could. He seemed familiar. Throughout the ride in the van, I kept seeing a face. A scrawny kid from the 40s maybe... He and man looked same except the latter was taller and muscular. Maybe I knew him. Then I saw myself looking at him as I fell off a train only to be rescued later by HYDRA. Maybe he was a friend. His name- what was it? Just then the doors slid open to reveal Pierce with Rumlow. They looked at her as a doctor was now tending to her wounds. Rumlow looked at her with an evil grin while Pierce asked the doctors to get her clothes to cover. She then sat in a black vest now facing me as her front wound at the collar was being checked. Her eyes and nose were red while was let to fall on her back.

"Mission Report." I said nothing. "Mission Report now." he repeated. I gave no answer. He deserved to know nothing. After everything he has done to me and Natsya. I kept trying to remember the blond man on the bridge but I just couldn't. Were those memories even mine?

-ANASTASSIA POV-

I looked ahead unsure of what was happening. The Soldier didn't seem to answer Pierce. Soon he slapped the man in chair in front of me. I flinched. Why wasn't he talking? Did he want to die? "The man on the bridge..." the Soldier started, "Who was he?" "You both met him on a previous mission this week." "I knew him." I swear I saw Pierce tense up for a second before he looked at Rumlow. He seemed scared. Was the Soldier able to remember his past? Oh boy, I have to find some personal intel on Rogers. "He's been out of the cyro for quite long. He may remember bits and pieces", one of the doctors said. "Wipe him", said Pierce with no emotion. No. Not again. Please, I can't see him like this. The Soldier was scared too. He tried to get up from the chair and hit a guard in the face. A fight ensued between some HYDRA men who tried to pull him back to his seat but the super soldier was quick at punching and kicking them. Just then Rumlow pulled me towards him with this arm as a chokehold for me. "Be quiet honey", he whispered in my ear as I tried at getting free from him and he then took a knife out of my pocket and held it over my throat. "STAND DOWN, SOLDIER. I'm sure you don't want her to be hurt." The bare-chested man looked at me in pain and stood still as the men pulled him back to his seat and tied his arms in the chunky cuffs on the chair and he held a mouth-piece. Within a second, his head was wrapped by the headband on the machine and he started screaming in pain. Rumlow let me go after he was done grazing his hands over my chest subtly.

Pierce walked up to me while I looked at the screaming soldier in front of me with teary eyes. "Good job, child. You had the targets if it weren't for this dumb man. You may relax yourself in the Intel Room as a reward for your bravery. Hail HYDRA." With that being said, he patted on my good shoulder and left the lab. I got escorted to my cell and sat there quietly. A few minutes later, the Soldier was brought in. I approached him steadily. I've done this so many times, I can do this now too. I raised my hand and spoke, "Vse v poryadke, ya drug. Teper' oni ne prichinyat tebe vreda. Obeshchayu, Soldat. (It's fine, I'm a friend. They won't hurt you now. I promise, Soldat.)" I quietly walked up to him as he looked at me. "Remember me?" I signed to him. "Anastassia Dvorvak... Natsya", he spoke in a whisper and touched my hand to show that he trusts me. I don't know why but a warm feeling bloomed inside me. Was it in my heart? But did I even have one?

The Soldier quietly sat in his corner as I left the cell with a guard. I headed to the intel room. It was a cleared space specially for me. Pierce always rewarded me to sit in the room by myself as I looked over into stuff to entertain me. It was a good habit to keep up with what happens outside HYDRA. I asked the guard to leave me there alone as he closed the door. I quickly logged into the computer screen and looked into files over World War II. I found many information over HYDRA's involvement in it with some details over Captain America.

Steven Grant Rogers

It was the man on the bridge.

Born of July 4, 1918 to Sarah and Joseph Rogers. Although born with serous health conditions, nothing could stop him from fighting the war. Initially rejected during enlistment, he finally got a chance upon his meet with Dr. Abraham Erskine, a German scientist who was the first creator of the Super Soldier Serum. Rogers joined the SSR through Project Rebirth, an enlisting program with selected candidates to be chosen to take the serum. His wit, determination and selfless nature got him chosen to be America's first Super Soldier. Although after the demise of Dr. Erskine, Rogers did shows to promote army enlistment until he got in action to save his childhood friend, Sg. James Buchanan (Bucky) Barnes of 107th Infantry Regiment, who had been captivated by HYDRA's forces. After rescuing them successfully, Rogers along with Barnes and their elite team Howling Commandos, led several missions to HYDRA bases and camps.

It was during an uneventful mission during the capture of HYDRA's top scientist, Arnim Zola, when Rogers had to witness the fall of his pal, Bucky Barnes from the moving train into the ravine. Rogers who was heartbroken made sure to get his revenge from HYDRA by killing its then leader Schmidt and then crash landing the jet in the Artic ocean along with himself to save the country from a nuclear war.

No, it couldn't be possible. I quickly searched for pictures of Rogers with the Howling Commandos and to my shock there was a picture of him with his friend, James Bucky Barnes. It was the Soldier. He looked happy with his friend. What happened after his supposed death? I checked into files about the Soldier which I shouldn't have but knowing that he must have read mine too, I didn't care about it. After Zola had joined hands with SSR, he also helped create SHIELD's original bases along with Peggy Carter, Howard Stark and many more but re-established HYDRA under SHIELD's nose. Barnes who was reported to be dead was actually alive and was brainwashed into being HYDRA's personal assassin, The Winter Soldier. They made the Sold- Bucky their puppet. How could they do this to him? I was covered in flames by now. I NEED to get Bucky out of here. He needs his pal and deserves a life of good, not this hellhole. I quickly switched to a unknown connection which HYDRA used to share their information whilst being untraceable. I connected myself with a private number and sent a message to Rogers.

YOU NEED TO STOP PROJECT INSIGHT. HYDRA WIPED BUCKY. SAVE HIM.

I signed it in my name and broke the connection. Soon I logged out and headed my way to the cell. All I had to do was wait for the day of initiation of PROJECT INSIGHT.
