The weekend finally came. This week has been exhausting and horrible and just ugh. We're gonna speak to Jack's friend Theodor to see if he has a specific date. I'm going on this trip even if Dad doesn't let me. I'll run away if I have to but I'm going on this trip.
"Are you sure it's this way?" Jack took a sharp turn in an empty lane. The only thing next to the road was trees. "Yeah, it's right around the corner. We'll be there in like 3 minutes." He speeded up a bit. This was nothing compared to how fast Eric drives. "So um, how do you even know this guy? I mean how does he know about people like you?" I asked looking out the window. "Well, he's a human. But he was saved by a an angel which caused him to dedicate his life to studying and helping us. One life for the other you get me?" I nodded. "So what exactly was he saved from?" I asked curious. "His friends, those were some psycho people. They had him all fucked up in the head. All they would ever do was drugs and more drugs until one day Theodor overdosed and went into a coma. There he was visited by Penelope, his 'fallen angel' as he calls us, which changed him completely. When he got out of the coma he went into rehab and started studying medicine and religion and things like that. He really has been a help for all angels who have asked for his guidance. He's a really good friend of mine." Jack kept staring at the road. He made a turn into a little shop that only had 5 parking spaces. We were literally in the middle of no where. There was a little neon pink sign in front of the window that said 'BOTANY' in cursive. I unbuckled my seatbelt while Jack stepped out of the car to open the door for me. "Thank you," I smiled at his manners. He winked. When I got out of the car he put his hand out for me to take. Our fingers tangled up giving me the butterflies.
Jack went ahead of me and opened the door of the shop and the sound of bells came to my ear. I stepped in and the place smelled like scented candles and cheap perfume. There were antiques and buddhas, beads and plants all over the place. "Theodor!" Jack yelled while it echoed through out the whole store. "Come in!" a response was heard from down the hall. Jack's hand guided my way. I stepped carefully over the wooden floor boards as it creaked after every step. Jack turned into small room that had a desk stacked with papers and herbs over it and right behind was a frail guy, probably my height and I'm 5'5. His hair was brown and shoulder length, it was a bit messy too. He had rectangular glasses that covered up most of his face. His eyes were as dark as his hair. "Hey Jack! Didn't think you'd be here so soon!" Theodor pushed the stack of papers aside to make the desk look more 'neat'. "Yeah, my um, friend Carlie wanted to know when we'd be taking off." Jack said awkwardly. "So this is the famous Carlie, I heard you have a tough case on your hands huh?" Theodor shook my hand. And this guy was into drugs? "Well if you didn't already know my name is Theodor Brown but you can call me Theo or Thee or whatever. But I'm gonna be helping you with one of the trickiest witchcraft problems that have been going around since the 1400s, so my first question is.. Where did you find the necklace?" Theodor grabbed a clipboard.
"The necklace? Um I bought it at a garage sale?" I answered touching my neck since I forgot I didn't have the pendant on. He scribbled down something on the clipboard while Jack leaned back against the wall sticking a toothpick in his mouth, not unusual. "This is a great place to start, do you remember where the garage sale was?" I thought for a second and nodded my head. "Then lets get over there. The owner of that necklace can bring us big help."
We all got in Jack's car. Theodor sat in the back while I sat next to Jack. "It was by the abandoned train station." I said looking out the window. When the area began to look familiar I told Jack to slow down. The houses around here were huge. All I remember of the house was that it was a pale yellow color. "Wait wait I think it's this one." I tapped on the window pf the car looking at the house. "You sure?" Jack put the car in park as we all stared at the house. "Yeah it's definitely this one. This is one of the only houses that didn't have flowers in their front lawn." Jack parked the car in their empty drive way. We all got out and headed towards the front door. There was a sign pinned on the door. "Warning the following home has been, blah blah blah..the state of Tennessee, blah, this home has been put up for sale? The owners were kicked out by Tennessee state inspection? " Theodor said following the words with his finger. "Shit, well there goes our last hope." Jack pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his back pocket and put one behind his ear. "Nah, let's go back to the shop. I still have some resources we can lean on." He smiled. Seriously though this guy was in a coma for drug overdose?
