Aubrey says her first word

After a few hours of driving, Kate finally made it to Chris' house and once she started to see they were close to his house she let out a sigh of relief. She looked up into the rearview mirror to look at Aubrey who was sleeping peacefully in the back, for a quick second. Suddenly, a clawed hand came through the window, taking a hold of her neck, causing Kate to swerve on the road. The loud sound woke Aubrey out of her sleep and she burst into a fit of loud cries watching the scene unfold.

"It's okay, Aubrey." Kate mustered out, trying to pick up her gun but it ended up falling far into the passenger side where she couldn't reach.

She then tried to turn the car in a way where the wolf would let go but to no avail, she turned to other measures. The sound of a shotgun rang out and the wolf cried out and let go before running into the woods. Kate rubbed the spot where the wolf held onto, took a few deep breaths, and got out of the car as quickly as she could to Aubrey's side.

Once Kate pulled her out of the car seat she did her best to reassure her that everything was okay, "I'm sorry honey, mom's okay."

Chris came running to the car, "Are you two all right?"

Kate nodded and hugged Aubrey tightly as she started to calm down.

the next day

"Aubrey!" Allison called out as she held out her arms to which Aubrey ran to her quickly in a fit of giggles, "You're so cute."

Kate smiled at the interaction before asking, "Is dinner ready?"

"I think so! Are you ready to eat Aubrey?!" Allison laughed at the little happy babbles she got in response.

While the table was getting set up, Allison kept Aubrey busy with toys and tried to get her to say some words even though Aubrey typically gave her puzzled looks.

"Come on, Aubrey." Kate motioned for her and she waddled over to where she wanted to sit.

Within the middle of their dinner of laughter and various conversations, a noise was heard from outside the house causing Aubrey to cry once again and as Chris went to go take a look, Kate did her best to console her.

"Everything's fine, Aubrey."

Aubrey wrapped her arms around Kate's neck tightly as she cried, "Mom."

Kate's eyes widened realizing she had just said her first word and Allison gave an excited gleam, "Yes, I'm mom! I can't believe you just said your first word."

Chris eventually came back and didn't find anything so they continued their dinner as one happy family.
