Chapter 20
(Sakura's POV)
Walking through my front door is always nerve-wracking. John sat at the dining room table, head turning in my direction when the front door creaked close. "Mom and Dad aren't here," and with that he stood up and walked in the direction his room was in. The simple statement was amazing to me. My brother managed to say yet another sentence without insulting me in some kind of way.
Right when I was just about to enter my room and take off my backpack, there was a knock at the door. I stayed silent trying to hear my brother's footsteps, but when it became clear he wasn't going to open the door, I threw my backpack on the floor and opened it myself. I was shocked to find Naruto at my doorstep, looking gaunt and frankly just plain sick. His face was red as he stumbled into my house, swaying side to side with uncontrollable laughter.
The strong stench of alcohol clung to his clothes and I covered my hand over his mouth to make sure John wasn't alerted of his presence. He kicked the door shut causing it to slams while I winced at the unnecessary loudness of it. When he nearly tripped over his own feet, I grabbed his right arm in attempt to steady him and getting standing upright.
"SAKURA-CHANNNN, I MISSSSSSSSSS YOOOOUU!"
"Shhhhhh!"
Letting out another bellow of laughter, he ignored my attempt to lower his voice and continued to babble incoherently. I somehow managed to get him all the way to my bedroom but when I went to throw him on the bed, he grabbed my arm and made me fall on top of him.
Naruto grew quiet as he noticed how close our faces were. I tried to stand up, face burning in embarrassment. But next thing I know, he grabbed the back of my neck and yanked our heads closer, causing our lips to crash together.
Frantically trying to get out of his hold, I accidentally elbowed his stomach and he lurched to the side of my bed and threw up. The stench of it burned my nose and I quickly scrambled off of him. In a second, he was passed out, mumbling madness.
I wiped my lips with the back of my hand and hoped he wouldn't remember tomorrow.
When I left the room and went to sleep in my parents, I missed the sadness in Naruto's eyes when he whispered,
"I love you".
