Chapter 5

(Sakura's POV)

The rest of the day was slow and painful.

Between running from Wendy and her minions and my best friend who seems to hate me now. His sudden change of mood from yesterday, only makes me realize how much of a negative influence I am to him. I've turned his bright and friendly personality into a dark and possessive guy. I don't even want to get started on how confusing Sasuke is. Even now, as I walk back into the halls after my last period. I am being rammed into and pushed around by everyone in my path. Not that I care, anyway.

"It's just sympathy." I muttered to myself as I was rammed into a nearby locker.

"Who would care about you?" The voices hissed in annoyance.

Gritting my teeth, I kept my head down as I refrained myself from glaring at the idiot who pushed me. And I even heard a faint whisper as they walked by that made my eyes burn and my knees shake.

"Freak."

I'm not saying that he is wrong or there is something wrong with that word, but something inside me trembled in crushing anguish. Clutching my throbbing shoulder, I pushed past the crowd and ran to the gym, that was always closed after class on mondays. The emptiness and darkness, caused me to sigh in relief as I took in the large room. The basketball hoops laid still and I could even see faint sneaker markings on the floor, when you looked hard enough. My legs guided me to the rows of bleachers and I put my feet up with relief, flowing through my body. My eyes drifted closed and I spotted the outline of a figure as they slowly shut.

"Naruto-kun?"

As the figure approached, I started to smell tobacco. My fingers automatically plugged my nose as it crinkled in disgust. I quickly put my feet down and ran to the shadow with relief. Wrapping my small arms around Naruto's waist,

"Your back!"

A deep rumble soon followed as a cloud of smoke blew into my face. Making my eyes water and my lungs to gasp for fresh air.

"It's not everyday, that people willingly throw themselves into my arms."

A chill ran down my back as he flicked the gym lights on. I couldn't even suppress the gasp that escaped my mouth or the shaking in my knees. Taking slow steps backwards, I kept my eyes trained onto the ground. Here I was, wrapping my arms around the big brother of the most popular guy in school. Tattoos littered his arms, and a cigerate sat smugly in the corner of his lips as smoke filed out like a line of kids. Everyone has heard of him, but it is rare to see him at anytime of the day. A smirk crawled onto his lips when he saw me practically shaking in fear.

"So, word on the street is that you showed up on my brothers bike today?"

Refusing to look up, I nodded my head and cringed again when he blew a cloud of smoke into my face.

"Your not allowed to smoke on school grounds," I whispered timidly.

Harshly grabbing my chin, he ignored my answer and glared into my eyes,

"He never let's anyone near his bike so what makes you so special?"

I kept still as he circled around me and gave me a full inspection.

"You look average and your body screams average as well, so why you?"

I didn't even get to respond when a chilling voice broke through our intense conversation.

"Itachi, were leaving now."

A burst of joy went through my body as I looked up and saw Sasuke standing across the room with his usual cold expression. Itachi let out a light chuckle before walking away from my stiff and terrified body.

Why did he save me?

"He didn't save you!" the voices screamed.

"He was just telling his brother that they had to go and not waste time with a loser like you."

Nodding my head in a bitter agreement I walked out of the gym after flicking the lights back off.

What was I thinking.
