Slaver's Bay

The army of Unsullied and that was left of the Khalisar and knights marched out of Astapor. The city was shaken after the death of the ruling Good Masters. Daenerys and Jaehaerys set up a council of elders consisting of former slaves and former masters. Those that survived at the very least. Whether it will be enough to make the city prosper and be functional remains to be seen. Jaehaerys was at the very least convinced that it is better than having slavery running rampant.

Now they marched their way to the next city, Yunkai. It will roughly be a week to two weeks of marching. Not terribly long, but dull when you have nothing else to do than marching. At the very least, there were some matters to be done. The Unsullied need a spokesperson. A commander that answers directly to Daenerys and Jaehaerys.

"Missandei," Jaehaerys says as he rode with Dany and the former slave translator, "Daenerys and I spoke with each other and we hope you can help us."

"Of course, Your Grace. How may this one be of service?"

"I hope you know you can speak your mind, Missandei. We do not hold anything against you and like to get your honest opinion. You have valuable insights we do not have. However, what we like to ask of you is if you can gather the officers of the Unsullied and ask them to pick a leader among themselves. It would make it easier to communicate with the army," Daenerys explains.

"In two hours we will have a break so the army can rest. It would make for the perfect moment. Could you get them to decide on a leader by then?"

"Yes, Your Majesties. If you'll excuse me," she says with a slight bow before going towards the Unsullied and finding the officers.

"She is a good and smart person. Missandei will be a great help in liberating Slaver's Bay," Jaehaerys says as he briefly looked at the girl.

"I think so too. Yunkai is next. Did you read anything about the city?"

"Dany, each of these cities is full of slaves. It is called Slaver's Bay for a reason. Astapor specialized in Unsullier, Yunkai with slaves for bed and brothels, and Meereen in pit fighting. They are all bad."

"We will make it better."

"Still, we need to be careful. This won't be accepted by many. And sudden shifts and events can cause devastation. We must tread lightly," Jaehaerys says while rubbing his chin.

"What do you mean? We left Astapor with a functional council. There was even a militia organized to keep the peace. Isn't that enough?"

"I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if some were still going try to restore the old world."

It makes sense. There will always be those that long for the past or let things be as they have always been. Certain things are certainly worthy to be preserved, but not everything. Unfortunately, some disagree fervently and will force them to restore what once was. It is something that could happen and only time will tell.

"Then we will crush them again. We will make them accept the new world we have ushered in. They will not go back to slavery," Daenerys says firmly.

"We will make them accept this new world, but not all things can be achieved by killing and murdering," Jaehaerys points out.

They will make the slaves free. All the slaves will feel freedom and hope for a better life. The goal may be just, but it cannot always be achieved by killing all of the masters. One can achieve just as much with words as with the sword. Basically, one must use both to achieve their goal. Jaehaerys thought about what Baelor and Jorah imparted and what he read in books. If that is what it takes, he will do his best with Daenerys at his side.
