Chapter Five
Secret
ONCE the pair of adult's arrived back at the precinct Chloe was putting the newly unwanted doll back into its box in order to send it back.
"You're a bad mother." Lucifer tells his partner causing a snort to erupt from Amelia and slap to Lucifer's chest "that's kinda harsh Lucifer." Amelia says before scurrying away go her lab.
"Really?" Chloe sasses. "I think you might be projecting a little bit."
"Oh really?" Lucifer chuckles finding her statement untruthful. "How's that?"
"Well, you keep trying to pin the murders in your own mother." Chloe answers as she tapes up the box. "I'm guessing you and her don't have the best relationship."
Amelia looks up at her new friend with a puzzled look. "You think your mother his the reason for the murder?"
"Because she is." Lucifer states finding it incredibly truthful.
"There." Chloe finishes taping up the box for it to be shipped off far from her child.
"At least, I get to keep the cute, little chocolate cake." Lucifer smiles holding up the chocolate cake the doll came with.
"Oh, come on." Chloe scoffs.
"Talked to Agent Colburn." Dan thankfully interrupts before something else occurs. "Charlotte wasn't working for the cartel. She was working to bring it down. And so was that poor kid." He places an open file down on Chloe's desk with a picture of a lifeless boy. "His name's Marco Sanchez. Got in over his head with the cartel, was trying to make it right."
"So he was working with Charlotte and the FBI as an informant?" Amelia questions looking at the picture in Chloe's hand.
"Trying to build a case against Perez, yeah." Dan answers. "That's why he and Charlotte were meeting at the hotel in secret. But look at this." Dan points to one of the papers in the file causing everyone's eyes to fall on it. "Perez's hitman is Jimmy Carpenter. Wanna take a guess at his MO?"
Chloe looks at the paper slightly confused. "Screwdriver?" She answers.
"Boom."
"So, the chick isn't a homicidal person anymore hose filled with rage." Amelia states patting Lucifer's back who looks shocked as he was thinking about something probably involving his mother.
"No." Chloe agrees. "Perez is. Or his hitman anyway."
"Right." Lucifer says. "Well, shall we arrest the Perez chap then?"
"The FBI's been trying to do that for years." Dan responds. "He's Teflon. He launders everything through his tanning salon franchise."
"So we can't risk derailing the FBI's case." Chloe bounces off Dan's words.
"We have to go through the court. And we have to get a warrant." Dan adds.
"I'll see if I can rush one. Perez could have Charlotte now." Chloe finishes.
"I doubt that." Lucifer disagrees.
