Mr. Sam walked into the office of his boss, the school principal. The principal, a short bald man with the surname Hammond, sat uncomfortably in his chair. "Come in, sit down, we have much to discuss." He spoke with a stern voice and sterner glare. "Where have you been?"
"Um, sleeping?" In truth, Mr. Sam did not know how long it had been since the attack.
"Both you and seven of the children under your charge have been missing for more than 48 hours."
Mr. Sam didn't know what to think anymore.
"Did you even do a head count before you came here? Need I remind you that you haven't finished your sentence yet and if I find cause to fire you, you'll spend the next decade in jail? So do you care to explain where you all went?"
"I didn't go anywhere sir; I was rendered unconscious by the attacker. But before he did that, I pressed a little button here." He took off his belt and laid It on the desk, pointing out a small red button on it. "It was a prototype, designed to safely teleport those whose blood samples were stored in it. I could only get those six in time, but it worked."
"I should fire you for this."
"You would have to fire your whole staff; they are all complacent. McDuffie helped build it, Anderson proposed the place to keep them, Eden and a few others helped with blood samples."
"Yes, about Mr. Anderson, I talked to him. He said that he called the supposed safe location, and then he called several other backup locations. The children weren't there. tell me where they went."
Mr. Sam went silent and sunk into his chair.
"The school can't afford anyone knowing about incidents like this. And it's costly to cover them up. Seeing as you caused this, I want something from you." Hammond pulled out a piece of paper. "An extension on your forced tenure here." He cheekily extended a pen to Mr. Sam.
Mr. Sam snatched the pen and went to sign the paper, but was stopped by the sound of a knock at the door. Standing in the doorway was the second Year Jane Jones, who her friends call Alice.
"Mo—Jane. Please come in. Mr. Sam, you may be dismissed, we can talk later."
Mr. Sam left, confused.
