A/N: Merry Christmas, homies (if you celebrate, that is)!!! Otherwise, happy holidays, and I hope your celebrations, whatever they may look like, are being kind to you.
As far as story/chapter related news, uh...what to say about this one? It's a little fanservice-y, just like most of the chapters from the slice of life arc. To be honest, they're not my favourites, because I like the action and problems and the angst, but these chapters really do contribute to the overarching story, so I really hope that comes across as you read them & as the story progresses.
Finally, again, thank you for sticking with me and reading this far. Whether you're part of the handful of people who reads these chapters as they come out, or you're reading them at a later time, I really, really appreciate it and I hope I'm making it worth your while.
Hoo. Alright. I guess the baileys in my coffee is making me a little sappy. Ah well.
Demon and I got over the whole almost kiss and crying ordeal fairly quickly, and by that I mean we dealt with it the way we normally did. By not bringing it up and pretending it had never happened.
It wasn't really all that difficult to do. I had once overheard one of the spectators of one of our sparring matches mumble to their partner that Demon and Princess Stronghold are too strong for their own good, but they don't have a single braincell between the two of them. Again, I would never, ever admit this out loud to anyone, but it wasn't exactly an inaccurate statement. That's probably why it made it so easy for us to just sweep things under the rug and move on. Why bother with forgiveness when you can just forget?
Besides, time went on and the earth didn't stop spinning because two idiots full to the brim with pride were geniuses solely in the subject of being terrible to the other. Besides, we had sidekicks to pretend to be in love with and missions to complete and parties to go to.
It was around this time that I attended the best party I'd ever gone to at the SHA. It was hosted by someone named Kanzi. Yeah, you read that right. Most of the SHA parties had a specific host or two, a fact Elias told me once that I soon forgot. But I enjoyed this party so much that I went out of my way to learn the host's name.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
One of the many and more menial reasons that Kanzi's party was so great was because we had just come off attending the worst party in existence. Halloween. I didn't have anything against Halloween or dressing up or shoving handfuls of candy in my mouth, but this year, Halloween made literal Hell sound like a nice vacation and it was unquestionably and entirely Elias' fault.
Sometime back in the summer, Demon and I came to the decision that we'd dress up and angels and demons for Halloween. Being horribly competitive and literally God, I enlisted Elias the task of getting us some angel costumes. He'd done a fair job with our hero costumes, which we still wore on missions we did by ourselves, so I trusted him enough to do it. I didn't know where I would go to get something like that without having to ask a member of the Stronghold staff or someone else who would undoubtedly know or tell my dad, and because I was still trying to keep Elias off my dad's radar, it was what I like to call an every bird, one stone situation.
So, when Elias went home for Midsommar, he found some time between the extensive festivities to design and have the costumes made and came back with two extra garment bags tucked away in his luggage. I tried to pull them out and take a look at them, but he stopped me and told me it would be better if it was a surprise and took my face in his hands and kissed me stupid and we fell back into our bed and I figured it wasn't worth the fight.
