Finally.
It was finally here.
It was the day of the school festival.
Which meant that the next day, I would hug Elias (I doubt I'd get away with hugging Demon, he'd likely just smack me upside the head and tell me he'd see me around and we'd try not to look at each other) goodbye for the last time until I was married and watch them get on a plane and take the first easy breath in weeks.
I couldn't wait.
I was excited for the festival too, don't get me wrong. I'd been throwing myself into dance practice and training and everyone else's excitement was rubbing off on me. Uraraka was excited about the costumes had turned out. Mina was finally satisfied with our timing and group cohesiveness. Especially now that Midoriya had been booted from the dance squad and recruited for some strength intensive backstage duty.
For the record, I'd tried to snatch the job from him, but no, I was a girl and a good dancer, so I was shackled to my dancing job. Which, I mean, whatever. I didn't really have an issue with it or anything. The costumes weren't the worst things in the world, and I had no qualms about dancing or being on stage while I did it.
I'd be lying if I said I was alright with everyone I was sharing the stage with, however. We were still pretending things were fine through the common spaces and classes and even recalibration, but there was something silent and heavy shackled around our throats that even I could feel.
I'm not fucking doing that.
I'd slept in my own room, alone, for the past three days.
But it was school festival day, so any worries I had about any of that were issues for tomorrow and were going to be shoved back into the recesses of my mind until then.
I was having morning tea with Uraraka, Mina, Kiri, Kaminari, and Momo when Midoriya came back looking all freaked out and in a hurry. Uraraka was such a sweetheart. Her hands were clad in black, holding her teacup with all five fingers, and started beaming even harder at the sight of him. Mina, on the other hand, was on her feet immediately and started screeching.
"Where the heck do you think you're going!" She yelled, holding out an accusatory finger you'd have thought was a gun with how it made Midoriya jump. "Don't you know that we perform in four hours!"
"Ah! I know!" He yelped back, palms up. "I just need to run out and grab some rope for our disco ball trick."
"Are you kidding me?" Mina's eyes went even wider than usual. "You couldn't have thought of that yesterday?"
"I, uh, well, uh," Midoriya started.
"Why not just ask Yaomomo to make some?" Kaminari said, putting his tea on the table and nudging her. She smiled lightly.
"Dude," Kiri scolded. "You can't just use her as a 3D printer whenever you need something."
"Sure you can," I said with a shrug. "I do it all the time. Watch." I turned towards Momo, and she was obviously fighting off her smile. I leaned all the way into her until our noses brushed, and then shook my head side to side a little, batting my doe eyes. "What do ya say? Can you make us some rope? There's a tin of that fancy jasmine tea in it for you."
I pulled back and she rolled her eyes. "Make it a carton."
"Done," I told her. I turned back to the group. "See? Easy."
Kiri didn't look impressed, but Mina looked calm and Midoriya let out an exhale of relief as he came to join us in the sitting area, taking the seat beside Uraraka. Momo lifted her shirt a little, the sparkly sound starting up, and started pulling rope out of her stomach.
