Saturday 10:45 am,
The week went by quicker than Richie anticipated. He honestly didn't even remember what day of the week it was because he was so focused on trying to talk to Eddie, and before he knew it, it was Friday. He and Eddie had barely spoken to each other, the only time they would interact was in their Chemistry class. They were chosen to be lab partners, unfortunately for Eddie. But, they barely talked about anything other than Chemistry, unfortunately for Richie. As much as he tried, Eddie was resilient, not wanting to speak to Richie about anything other than school-related things.
Oh, how Richie absolutely hated this. He desperately wanted to talk to Eddie, but every time Richie would try and bring anything up, Eddie would immediately change the subject. That, or when Eddie did want, or chose to listen Richie would get nervous and stutter and just mess it up completely. He didn't understand why he was suddenly acting this way, but it only seemed to occur around Eddie. And, that lady at the cigarette store, but that one isn't really relevant.
But, today, Richie was determined to talk to Eddie. About everything. On the way to his house that Saturday, Richie was really thinking this through and practicing what he would say to Eddie. The fact that he was thinking this through really told a lot about how serious this was. Richie, being serious? Okay, next you'll say the sky is black and water is dry. He approached Eddie's front door and was about to knock, but he quickly realized that his mother was home when he noticed her car in the driveway. He remembers Eddie talking about how he always looked forward to his mother's car not being in the driveway when he got home because that meant he was free for an hour or two.
The boy quickly went to plan B and made his way to the backyard of Eddie's house, opening the gate and stepping in before slowly closing the gate afterwards. He swiftly, but sneakily, made his way towards the back door. Just to where Eddie's neighbors wouldn't be able to see him enter the house. He hesitated for a second before gently knocking on the back door. Not too loud, but just loud enough to where he thought Eddie could hear.
He waited a few moments, glancing around nervously for any unwanted looks over the fence.
"Hello? Who is that?" Eddie's voiced asked from the other side of the door. He seemed a bit unnerved.
"It's Richie." he answered, not being able to help the smile that had been wanting so desperately to spread across his face.
A few seconds of silence suggested that Eddie was contemplating even opening the door for the annoying, raven-haired boy.
"What do you want? What are you doing here?" Eddie asks, now a little less unnerved and a bit more annoyed.
"Uhm, can I...come in?" He simply asked.
Eddie stayed silent, contemplating a response. His upper lip bit down on his bottom one, nervous as he reluctantly agreed to allow Richie inside. The boy he had been avoiding - trying to, anyways - all week.
