george rushes down the steps of the school, heading quickly towards the parking lot.

"george?"

he turns around, his heart freezing like a rock in his chest as he watches the brunette jog up to him.

he wants to cry.

that's all he wants. he just wants to go home and sleep and cry and be done with this goddamn awful day.

he hates today and he hated yesterday and there's no fucking doubt he'll hate tomorrow too.

"hey," he says breathlessly, smiling at the brit. "sorry," he giggles, "i'm not very fit."

"i can't talk right now," george says, turning away from the other and continuing his beeline towards dream's car.

"wait!" he calls, jogging up to walk alongside george, but turning to walk backwards so they'd face one another. "listen, i just wanted to say i'm sorry for-"

"i said i can't talk," he repeats, speeding up. he's relieved when the other boy stops trying to catch up, letting george go freely.

he gets into dream's car, not looking at either of the waiting boys as he pulls on his seatbelt and looks out the window beside him.

"you took your time," sapnap laughs from the back, and dream starts up the car, switching to reverse. george doesn't answer, continuing to stare blankly out the window.

"were you just talking to karl?" dream asks, making his way out of the school's parking lot.

"he thought i dropped something," george mumbles.

from his peripheral, george sees dream glance back at sapnap and roll his eyes, and he knows that the blond is just joking because he's being grouchy, but that doesn't make him want to slap him any less.

"are you going on the aux?" sapnap asks.

george shakes his head.

"cool," sapnap chirps, and leans forward to plug in his own phone, playing some random country song that only he actually enjoys.

george leans his head on the cool glass of the window, feeling his eyes drift gently shut as they drive.

he doesn't fall asleep fully, but his head feels empty and his body feels airy in the way they do when you're between being awake and not.

"we're here," dream says, and george thinks he's talking to sapnap until he opens his eyes and sees the front of dream's house. confused, he looks back to find sapnap gone. "he got out already," dream tells him, "i don't think you were awake."

george nods, picking his bag up from the floor in front of him and opening the passenger's side door.

"are you going to tell me why you're all moody?" dream asks him.
